Sechew Powell lost in the quarter-finals of the 2001 World Championships to cuban Damian Austin 21-13.
Andre Berto was a bronze medallist at the 2003 Worlds, losing to cuban Lorenzo Aragon 25-15. He´s really powerful and should make it as a pro. He gave away an early lead to France's Xavier Noel and lost 42-41 at the 2004 Olympics, despite giving the frenchman a standing eight in the last.
Juan McPherson was world junior champion in 2002 and a Pan Am Games silver medallist in 2003 where he was given a boxing lesson by Lorenzo Aragon, losing 30-11. I'm not sure he has the tools to go far as a pro.

I most definitely beg to differ with you. Have no idea where you got the above erroneous information, but there is nothing factual about it.Powell was quite good as an amateur, but racist politics kept him from the Olympic games.
Mora was seconds away from getting disqualified for his dirty tactics when Powell gave in to his frustration and did a wrestling take-down. Under the circumstances, the referee had not choice but to DQ Powell. Bad move on Powell's part, especially since he was already familiar with Mora's tactics. He was dq'd for allegedly bodyslamming Sergio Mora at the Olympic trials, Mora who was fighting a very dirty fight was getting his arse handed to him but the ref was oblivious to his flagrant fouls.
Powell was a better-than-average, elite amateur. So was Berto. McPherso was as a JO but, as far as I'm concerned, didn't do as well in the senior open division (17 and above). I haven't been real impressed with what I've seen from Powell on TV - seems a bit sloppy to me and takes too many punches. I think Berto will be the best of the bunch. I don't think McPherson will do well in the pros, if he ever decides to get into that arena.

Andre comes from a fighting family. His father teaches MMA locally down here in Florida while his older brother Cleveland was the state wrestling champion a few years back (I coached against him a few times, classy kid).
