I saw Jones fight Holmes for the title, and thought how horribly out of shape Jones looked.I was young then, and couldn't remember Jones record. My father and I were talking about Holmes the other night, and this fight came up.I then looked up Jones record(he had completely disappeared from memory)and could not believe that the only loss of Jones career was the fight for the title.Does anyone else remember Jones, and if so,what kind of a fighter was he?

It's been many years since I've seen him, but I do still have some memory of Leroy Jones as a fighter. One thing that stands out in my memory of him is how suprised I was with the fighting style someone of that size used. Like you say, he wasn't in great shape, but the big guy could move around the ring quite well behind the jab, and also had some suprisingly quick hands for his size.
More of a outside boxing stylist & with his size, I'd most compare him to the Heavyweight contender from the late 60's/early 70's, Buster Mathis.

I should have mentioned that.To appear in the lack of shape that he did,he moved well, and was quick for his size.I only heard about Buster Mathis Sr,but i know his son Buster Jr,and have seen him fight. He too is someone that is deceiving. He looks out of shape, but is quick fisted, and very busy for his size.Randineous wrote:It's been many years since I've seen him, but I do still have some memory of Leroy Jones as a fighter. The big guy really seems to have disappeared.
