I remember an article about 15 years ago that alleged that many of Urtain's KO victories were tank jobs.A booking agent was quoted as saying he sent dive artists to Spain for Urtain to build his record against.I can't recall which boxing magazine ran the article.Does anyone remember reading an article with this content? Also, has anyone ever read any details about the circumstances which led to Urtain's suicide?I imagine that European sources covered this with greater depth than American magazines and newspapers.

Ring Magazine had tons of articles on Urtain in the 70s, but I haven't really read much about him.

I shall have a look through my mags.

A lot of the opponents have no previous "form" which leads one to believe they were nobodies.

I'm sure I can lay my hands on his death article

I think it was more overmatching than fixed. Some of the Urtain opponents were guys like George Holden who were six round figters who took a payday and never expected to win, or perennial European punching bags like Valere Mahau. Urtain commited suicide by jumping off a balcony. It was said that he had marital and family problems and was depressed. There was a book published in Spain about Urtain but I have not found it.
