Anyone have details of the incident?
different case etc etc so best not to try and connect them....stujones wrote:Different case and everything, but Jodie Marsh's allegations about Delaney don't sound so much of a PR stunt now.
Hitting someone in self defence whilst trying to do your job as a door supervisor and beating up a girl is completely different.
You say he has been arrested, Boxing News say he has been charged.Kevin wrote:Nice to see Boxing news catching up with the news, BBN ran this in October!!!

They are two different developments at different stages.
Looks like BN beat you to it
Who was first with the story that Delaney was in bother, John? Don't waste posts on this - let's have some more of your excellent inside info from Fight Academy!KO Atrist wrote:You say he has been arrested, Boxing News say he has been charged.Kevin wrote:Nice to see Boxing news catching up with the news, BBN ran this in October!!!

I dont know the details of this but a doorman should never need throw a punch wether ni self defence or not. Delany seems a bit of a bully by all accounts and I wonder if people would say "this is bad news" had it been a membe rof their family who had been fatally punched by a former boxer who is reportedly a bully and woman beater.
all very well in theory.... but in practice it isnt always "textbook"....Wales wrote:I dont know the details of this but a doorman should never need throw a punch wether ni self defence or not.
I am not aware of the full details either, but clubbers these days are a new breed, lot of them carry blades, lot of em take coke and think they can take on the world and get extra violent.
two weeks earlier Lee Murray, a friend of Garrys, had been stabbed and nearly died outside a nightclub.... These are the conditions you work in these days... so to say you should never need to throw a punch is over simplifying the whole thing.
We will have to wait and see what the facts of the case are.
I agree, in the field it isnt always text book, however, that dosent excuse doing something that your proffession forbids. Doormen must now attend courses that train them how to deal with various situations including being approached by a knife wielding individual, at no point in the course does the tutor say "and if that dosent work kick the shit out of them" . The days of doormen being untrained monkeys have long passed and they should now be proffesional and trained. Many proffesions face dangers this is why measures are put in place to reduce the risk. It has been too acceptable for doormen to resort to using their fists because they are under threat.
Im sorry but it just dosent wash, the police wouldnt get away with it even members of the armed forces wouldnt get away with it so why do people find it acceptable for doormen to?

Lack of evidence presumably??topper123 wrote:there was a recent case of a doorman at Stringfellows who punched someone that was being chucked out, i think the accused was a former amatuer boxer, in the end he got found not guilty.
but each case is different,
I watched a documentary not so long back and featured was a cage fighter (one of the top guys in the uk) called paul "hands of stone" something from cardiff. On the documentary a chap was saying he had had his jaw and cheek bones broken by this "hand of stone" guy whilst being thrown out of a cardiff club. I dont remember the outcome of the trial, i dont think it was documented.

This is the case i mentioned
A BOUNCER at Stringfellow’s Covent Garden dance club has been cleared of murdering a reveller on a stag night out.
But an Old Bailey jury was unable to agree on a verdict to a lesser charge of manslaughter faced by former heavyweight boxer Marcus Marriott and he will be retried.
The court heard how drunken businessman George MacDonald, 34, a father of two from Southam, Warwickshire, was ejected from the basement club in Upper St Martin’s Lane after a claim that he groped a dancer.
Marriott, 33, from Chingford, east London, one of 12 door supervisors on duty, admitted that on the pavement in Long Acre he punched 21- stone Mr MacDonald on the side of the head.
The blow sent Mr MacDonald, who had spent £500 at Stringfellow’s, crashing to the ground.
He died from a skull fracture on October 8 last year. Marriott said he was acting in self defence because he feared the victim might be about to attack him.

is that a joke, Police frequently get away with shooting people, knowing that the result will be death....Wales wrote: Im sorry but it just dosent wash, the police wouldnt get away with it even members of the armed forces wouldnt get away with it so why do people find it acceptable for doormen to?
Didnt realise that Stringfellows doorman had got off... that case was bizzare because apparently there was the added detail that they left him out back knowing he was KO'd and he wasnt found till the morning...
Paul Jenkins is the guy in question....Wales wrote:Lack of evidence presumably??topper123 wrote:there was a recent case of a doorman at Stringfellows who punched someone that was being chucked out, i think the accused was a former amatuer boxer, in the end he got found not guilty.

seen him fight a few times... tough SOB
A lot of doormen are just thugs who shouldn't be working the door. That said, I fully agree that a lot of clubbers these days appear to be coked up arseholes who need sorting out if they are blatantly causing trouble... but just that...a slap...a punch...
It can’t be an easy job, but e.g. I've seen 3 or 4 doormen completely kicking the crap out of someone who wasn't wielding a knife and was in no position to defend himself. Why not just throw him out and call the Police? Why the need to pulverise him?
If you pissed off staff at Barclays Bank during your lunch break would they come round the counter and fornicate you up? Or call the Police?
Doormen often seem too twitchy and unreasonable. Not too long ago on a stag do at FYEO in Southampton (a strip bar) a doormen said he was going to drag me out the back and beat me up if I "walked over the stage area again". I had apparently walked across a non-elevated section of the floor on the way back from the bar that was some sort of stage for the dancers (I didn’t even notice it). He thought I was "taking the piss" despite me assuring him I wasn't, and was having none of it.
I've had plenty, and seen plenty, of situations like that. They should try and employ a few more doormen with brains.
It’s a bit sickening to hear the Stringfellows doorman was found not guilty. In a pre-emptive strike he (a huge doorman) just smashed a guy on the side of the head and kills him - not guilty? Hmmm...

I have pulled doormen up in the past when i have felt they are going over the top....(last time was in the Walkabout in temple)
If there is no danger then there is no need to use force... so like you say 4 guys whacking an already ejected punter is COMPLETELY unacceptable.
Stringfellows doorman was found not guilty of murder, but may well get guilty when the Man slaughter charge goes to court.
It is also alleged that in the Delaney case they guy left the scene of the incident ok yet collapsed several hours later... so it isnt necessarily Delaney who caused the damage..
You see how complicated things get.....
Check the stats on how many deaths have been caused by police shooting in the uk over the past 12months - I think you'll be very surprised.knockout wrote:is that a joke, Police frequently get away with shooting people, knowing that the result will be death....Wales wrote: Im sorry but it just dosent wash, the police wouldnt get away with it even members of the armed forces wouldnt get away with it so why do people find it acceptable for doormen to?

well the brazilian "terrorist" immediatly springs to mind.....
Then there was the disabled guy with the wooden stick in a plastic bag.....
Two case off the top of my head when police got away with shooting an innocent man dead....
So in response to your original post, yes, Police do get away with shooting people never mind punching them...
They wont "get away" with neither of them cases. Both cases will be delt with acordingly. The case of Jean Charles de Menezes is currently being reviewed and questions being asked as to why this happened, this case is a slightly sensative one with the climate the country was (and still is) in at the time.
Im not familiar of the disabled guy with the bag but if a shooting takes place there is a full and thorough investigation into the reasons behind it.
