Post by kovit »

I would please like to know how good is former WBA Heavyweight Champion Gerrie Coetzee in his strength and weakness in a specific details. I know Coetzee's right hand is his best punch, but what was his other strength?

Coetzee was a hell of a fighter, good left hook, massive right hand and could take a terrific punch. He was a very tough man in the ring.

In the Weaver fight, Weaver landed every punch in the book and Coetzee still was standing and even nearly knocked Weaver out in round 8. Weaver won purely because Coetzee was exhastased more than anything and TKO'ed him. Although in the Weaver fight he didnt show a jab.

However he improved after the Weaver fight and turned into boxer-puncher instead of just puncher and had a good snapping jab which he used to outbox Dokes until he knocked him out flat.

The downsides of Coetzee that he had terrible stamina problems and also he had confidence problems but other than that he deserves to be mentioned to be the 2nd best heavyweight after Holmes in the early 80's despite him being robbed in fights with Snipes and Thomas, especially the Snipes fight where Gerrie knocks him down twice and Snipes is bascially fighting for survival in the first 6/7 rounds....but yet Snipes was announced as the winner.

In the end Coetzee is severly underated here espeically when people say he was knocked out by Bruno in his prime.

Coetzee was way past his prime when Bruno KO'd him.
