Brilliant feature on Secondsout about a brawl by Toney and Rahman at the WBC conference. Can't wait till they meet in the ring. People don't know how lucky they are - 'hotel guests and staff members looked on in stunned disbelief', maybe if they had paid £55 to watch Fraudley vs. Williams they may have been more appreciative when two guys actually want to scrap!

Toney and Rahman brawl in Cancun

Two of the most volatile heavyweights of recent James 'Lights Out' Toney and Hasim Rahman came to blows on Monday night at the Le Meridien Cancun Resort & Spa in Mexico.

Rahman and Toney were joining other boxing luminaries and members of the media attending a welcoming cocktail party for the WBC's "Crowning of the Champions" event set for Tuesday afternoon. Toney was being interviewed by Television Azteca in the hotel lobby with many members of the media surrounding him. He was in the process of explaining that he had made a spur-of-the-moment decision after arriving in Cancun yesterday to marry his fiancée Angie at the hotel's pool on Tuesday morning.

Rahman stumbled across his mandatory challenger when he arrived in the hotel lobby at about 6:15 p.m. while the television interview was taking place.

The bliss of Toney's pending nuptials was interrupted when he realized Rahman had just arrived. After the two prizefighters made eye contact, a war of words erupted. The verbal assaults escalated into a full-fledged brawl soon thereafter that took many people and over 15 minutes to quell while hotel guests and staff members looked on in stunned disbelief.

Unannounced fisticuffs are a rare occurrence at this posh resort. Ironically, this world famous tropical paradise is just now recovering from blows sustained by Hurricane Wilma. World Boxing Council Executive Secretary Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed that neither boxer sustained serious injury.

Rahman, Toney, former WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko, boxer Oleg Maskaev, promoter Don King, boxing manager Carl King, promoter Dan Goossen, Todd duBoef from Top Rank, WBC President Jose Sulaiman, his son Mauricio, Rahman's manager Steve Nelson, and many others have made the holiday trek to be present for the coronation of Rahman as the WBC heavyweight champion and Klitschko as champion emeritus.

In the ring, yeah Toney has far more skills.... but i thought on the street a natural heavyweight might dominate....
Good story about Toney banging out Deon Saunders (football/baseball star) in training camp at college!!!

Two of the biggest mouths in boxing collide - press conf should be a laugh.

To be honest, I think Rahman is pretty much done - though if he lands a bomb Toney will be in serious trouble. Even with that great chin of his, he's still a fat middleweight.

But he has the skills other boxers can only dream about, and will spank Rahman likes he's his daddy

Toney is incredible..... NO doubt we would be questioning Monzon as the number one middleweight in history if this guy had the work ethic of a Hagler or Hopkins

Yeah an in shape Toney would've slam dunked Hop any day of the week. And I get the feeling he might even have beaten the marvellous one.

yeah, neither are fighting by the rules.... or does the big guy have to abide by the Marquis of Queensbury rules???

Tend to find a plank of wood, hammer or chair tends to even up the size debate.

in serioussness these are both big lads in or out of the ring i think toney wins it aint that much of a size difference to make any odds.

Yes I think Toney would beat Rahman over 12 in a poor fight. Rahman has a tendancy to get lazy and coast through fights and isnt busy enough to fight 3 minutes a round and make Toney work for every punch which in his current state of conditioning would be troublesome.
Although I get the feeling that its a matter of time until Toney with his lack of training, conditioning and laziness outside of the ring will come a cropper sooner rather than later I think he has too much savvy and ring know-how for Rahman

I don't think Toneyn is in particularly bad condition, he throws a lot of shots for a guy with poor stamina, and hasn't looked like being outworked recently. He cruised by John Ruiz despite Ruiz trying to grapple with him and tire him out, and outworked Guinn pretty easily.

A young guy like Peter would give him serious problems, because Peter doesn't get discouraged by missing or being hit back.

I agree, but i think Peter will get discouraged by the mid to late rounds after being hit in the face every time he throws a punch.
