I added 35 fights to Mauriello's record, according to Ring Record Book 1950.
Questions;
-Did he start as a skinny welterwight, adding wieght - muscles or flesh?
-Or, was he growing naturally, beeing just 16 years old in his pro debut?
-Did he fight in the 50's?

Believe he retired in 1949. There was a revised record that appeared in one of the last Ring Record Books for him, I'll check that for discrepancies.

TAMI MAURIELLO also got a few movie roles in Hollywood after he hung them up including "ON THE WATERFRONT", with MARLON BRANDO. Check the credits. Dan Coli

Most recent shot of Tami attending a Ring 8 meeting in Queens, NY July 1991
The picture has two names that are mislabeled- on picture Johnny Busso is really Billy Kilgore, and Tony Mazzarella is Danny Giovanelli (nephew Bklyn Boxer of Patsy Giovanelli on his left).

Hya CN, this photo above brings back many fond memory's. Of your dad, of Tippy Larkin who had everything in boxing but a strong chin, and one of my favourite's Tami Mauriello who I saw many times at MSG, against Bruce Woodcock, Lee Savold, Joe Baksi and others..Every fight Tami was in was a thriller because he never took a backstep...Tami and your dad would have been quite a thrilling battle...People today forget that as a rising middleweight Mauriello was a tremendous prospect who kod his great young rival Steve Belloise...But Tami got heavier and slower becoming a LH and then a heavyweight...I also as a kid saw Patsy Giovanelli fight in NY...He was like Boom Boom Mancini, a crowd pleaser...Great photo...

As such a fan, I thought you would have known Mauriello fought in a go-forward style because he couldn't back up effectively. One leg was shorter than the other.

Sure DID know that Tami from the Bronx, NY ,was born with one leg shorter than the other . Every boxing fan of Mauriello knew this from reading about it, but the average fan wouldn't be aware of this fact as Tami walking to the ring didn't limp noticably...And even if Tami had a normal gait his bravery in the ring wouldn't have allowed him to take a backstep...I have a photo of Tami with Frank Sinatra on his back. Mauriello was Sinatra's favourite fighter...

I know this is a Mauriello thread-but you mentioned Danny Giovanalli. Here is a pretrty recent picture of the ring legend. Still a firm handshake and very smart and alert Dec. 2010. Fought a very tough fight with Art Aragon in Aragon's hometown- LA, California going 9 rds.

Hi BeauJack-Great to here from you. I will be going out to California in a couple of weeks to accept my dads honor of Ca. Boxing HOF induction. I am told that the following boxing greats will be on hand- Tony Lopez, Frankie Baltazar Sr & Jr, Bobby Chacon, Sergio Martinez(coming off his PPV win over Chavez Jr, Shane Mosley and others. I will post any pictures on Boxrec, either on my dads thread or I'll start a new one if its many. Also any stories to tell if I am lucky. C Norkus Jr.

Seems the wrong date of birth was registered for Mauriello - his actual birth date was 24 May 1923, not 18 September. He died on 3 December 1999.
The Social Security index record of his death has his date of birth as 24 May 1923, and the obit notice placed by his family also had 24 May 1923. In the New York Census taken on 1 June 1925, he is listed (under his real name of Stefano Mauriello) as 2 years old, so May 1923 fits and September 1923 doesn't.
Robert Mladinich wrote an interesting piece on Mauriello on The Sweet Science in 2006 based on an interview with his sister, Marie (Maria), who looked after him when he was suffering from dementia. (Stefano was anglicised to Stephen but he became Tami when he was 14 and began boxing using his elder brother's birth certificate.)
