Sergio Martinez
Sergio Martinez
Anyone know why this guy - who I would rate as a world class fighter - has fallen off the radar so much? I know that fighting out of Spain isn't generally a quick route to a world title shot, but still.. this is a guy who should be fighting the best, not plodding along against nobodies waiting for something to happen. He must be one of the most poorly-promoted fighters out there. His only loss is against Margarito, ffs!

He came over here a couple of times and looked like pure world class in skills. Hes an Argie isn't he. Got a couple of decent fighters - Martinez and Garay who beat Erdei twice but got robbed twice. Barrios the Argie super feather WBO champ may come over and fight Harrison sometime - how do you reckon that'll go? Rios got battered by Hatton but finnished off Cook. I wonder how good Baldomir whos fighting Judah is - doubt hes upto much

Dzindiruk vs Martinez is a fight I would like to see - one for the purist.
That would indeed be an excellent fight between two tough and well-schooled fighters. Hopefully Martinez gets some kind of shot in 2006, because he definitely deserves it.

i want to see this fight also..
doubt it will ever happen, but there is a chance cus these guys now dont seem to mind fighting tough opponents..
Re: Sergio Martinez
i would love to see martinez v dzinziruk.
i prefer these guys to paul williams who has been reduced to a circus act tripping his opponent out of the ring while moaning about being the most avoided guy ever and while taking the easy HBO money for meaningless contests.
williams declined to challenge dzinziruk's WBO title despite paying ssanctioning fees in an elim or for an international title, at light middleweight. and obviously i feel martinez beat williams in their sensational fight (af the year) last year.
dzinziruk could move up a weight and challenge martinez. if he lost, he'd still have his light middleweight title. it would be a similar risk to what martinez took, challenging williams.
with both having made statements on american TV dates there's a better chance of something like this happening.

Re: Sergio Martinez
Martinez has a big decision to make shortly.
He has to vacate one of the WBC titles.
Until he makes that decision, we can only speculate where his future lies.

Re: Sergio Martinez
none of the light middles his promoter wants are cooperating. i mean margarito and angulo. martinez will stay at middle, of this i am almost certain.

Re: Sergio Martinez
I hope so.
Rhodes ranking is such that it would be difficult to ignore him for a shot at the vacant title.
However let's get Friday out of the way first.

Ha, I just posted today that I think Martinez-Dzinziruk wouldn't be a very good fight style-wise! Things do change though, and I think it would be the wrong fight for both guys at this point. When I wrote the original post it would have been an interesting fight but now I'm not sure that the styles would blend well.
Really good to see that both guys are finally getting wider recognition though.
