Australian Chad Bennett (17-1-3) will challenge Jawaid Khaliq (23-1-1) for IBO welterweight crown in Newcastle, NSW, Australia on March 25. Chad Bennett currently holds the IBO intercontinental 147 pound title. He defended the championship successfully in November when he easily outpointed over twelve rounds well credentialed Ariel Aparicio (24-7) of Argentina in November 2005 at Melbourne, Victoria. Khaliq defeated former WBO jnr welterweight champion Enur Julio by twelve round decision in February 2004 to win the IBO world championship in Nottingham, England.

Good to see Khaliq back, if only to see the word "credentialed" used in the fight build up. If he has been out so long though why is he still in possession of the IBO belt? I thought he would have sold it on the market, used it to hold his trousers up or on Ebay to the highest bidder or something, get some use out of it.

He's on a Gilmour show up in Scotland instead. Can't remember the date but it's quite soon.jomothepure wrote:fight cancelled apparently

That's ok - if it's the fight that's fallen through and not Khaliq's comeback. Probably better to have a tune-up or two if he is planning on a return anyway. It's not the Kevin Anderson card is it?Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:He's on a Gilmour show up in Scotland instead. Can't remember the date but it's quite soon.jomothepure wrote:fight cancelled apparently
