Abraham to defend against Joval

Post by jomothepure »

Well, it's just appeared in the scheduled anyway. Joval did well do get through a hard-earned win against Taylor last time out, but I don't think Abraham would have many problems with him to be honest.

I suppose Abraham has had a fairly tough 12 months or so - Eastman was always a toughie and many expect him to lose to Kingsley.

However, I am a bit dissapointed with this.

Shannon Taylor looked shot to pieces when Williams fought him 5 years back and had a serious drug problem, although looks to have turned the corner a bit in his career.

Sam Soliman handled him with ease, and a comebacking - faded Vargas beat him convingly too.

The Middleweight devision is full of decent (if not that marketable) names, but Joval isn't high on the list.

William Joppy is faded, but has two wins on his resume and at least has only lost (albeit heavily) to the best two in the division. Why not Joppy?

Sebastein Sylvester would have been another good defence, even Robert Allen.

stu -- not sure if Allen or Joppy can honestly make 160 anymore. Bringing in one of those would be akin to having Ray Oliveira fight Hatton when he couldn't really make the weight anymore. I honestly think Joval puts up a better fight than Joppy, who would just show up to get paid.

I agree. I think Joppy is totally shot. The last two guys he has beat have been 60 year old bearded rednecks and I think he is exclusive to Super Middle now.
I think Joval is a better fighter than Robbie Allen. If they fought I would give Joval the clear edge.
As Abrahams is fighting in Germany we have to expect this. Hand picked opponents who are competative but not really expected to win.
Hopefully Abrahams will get it on with Felix Sturm this year. That would be excellent. As would a bout with Sam Soliman.
I would be really surprised if Abrahams people ever attempted to make fights with Taylor or Wright.

I know from Mr. Sauerland that they talked with Taylors and Wrights people. Wright will definetely NOT fight Arthur, Taylor wants to wait. He doesn´t want to risk his titles. Sylvester is a team mate so this foght is impossible.

Felix Sturm didn´t want to fight Sylvester so I can´t imagine that Sturm fights Arthur. Not in this stage of his career.

I expected an easy first defense. That makes sense. Allen or Joppy would get easily knocked out by Arthur.

So he doesn't have many options. Strange then that his people haven't mentioned Sam Soliman or a rematch with Howard Eastman.
Mr Sauerland probably did talk to Arthur and Wrights people. He probably offered them a fight in Germany for peanuts so it is no surprise they said no. There is no way in hell that Abrahams will travel to America. He will never be recognised as a champion until he beats the 2 best in the division in Taylor and Wright but that won't make any difference to the way his promoters operate.
As for Joppy and Allen....they are unacceptable opponents. Both are ancient and semi-retired. Raymond Joval is not an easy opponent though. He will be the underdog but he should give Abrahams problems before being stopped in ten rounds. :TU:

It looks like that he fights Eastman in the next defense, so what is your problem? It is also planned that he goes to the states to fight the big names. But there are a lot of boxers who don´t want to fight Arthur.

I think he'll be fighting Miranda next, personally.

I agree -- I don't see Miranda losing to Eastman.

I´m pretty cool I just hate that every german boxer is considered to do it like Ottke did.

ottke's a good comparison. sauerland would be crazy not to let AA grow into the title, he's been a pro only two years. then, as with Ottke, make the bigger fights when the guy's ready (as with Ottke v Brewer II & Mitchell). that way, AA might not be tested in a major fight for a while, and who knows where Wright and Taylor will be by that point? for my money, Taylor will have grown into super middleweight

I see Edison Miranda taking care of Eastman and AA. Miranda is going to make a big statement this year similar to what Taylor did in 2005. The difference is, I think he will win these fights convincingly, without the controversy that Taylor had with Hopkins.

Joval has been taken off the scheduled. Has anyone heard whether he's out as an opponent for AA?

Must admit i have only seen Shannon Taylor fight once during his mini "comeback" and that was against Jorge Sclarandi and he looked awful, admittedly the Argentine wasn't up to much either and spoiled a lot. I can't see Taylor getting past round 3 with the heavy handed Abraham.

Agreed, I really don't like Taylor's chances in this one.
