Great performance from Manny
Morales was all at sea from the 7th onward, just had no extra gear to cope with Pacman.
Those body shots were the difference. Manny also controlled distance a lot better, his southpaw jab was pretty effective as was the lead right hand. Morales tried his best
It reminded me a lot of Pacman's wins over Barrera actually, the pace was just too much for the older fighter. Perhaps after all the cut played a major factor
Morales looked totally finished at the end, was more exhausted than hurt. Think he looks like he is at the end.
Pacman should taken on Barrera next and Marquez should move up to Super Feather. Great performance, and the end of an era.
Don't think Morales will fancy the rematch clause much, don't see him winning now.

It has been reported that Morales suffered a broken nose in the 6th - the turning point of the fight.
If this is true, then how much of a baring would this have had. I would say huge.
Having said that, it was an another aging fight for Morales who definately isn't the fighter he once was. He's definately slowing in the legs and reflexes. Still enough life in him to capture another world title, but to beat Pacquiao/Barerra - I'm not so sure. I would definately like to see a third match though - two cracking contests.
Seems like Barrera vs Chavez is not set in stone, Oscar De La Hoya offered the date to Pacquaio.

I was disgusted when fans booed Morales for backpedalling for a few was seconds at the end of a round. Stupid bastards, the respect deserved to such a legend is enormous. fornicating idiot fans. They forget the wars he has had repeatedly?
Anyway good performance by Pacman. Hopefully Morales will retire. His defeat saddened me but i feel lucky to have witnessed a great fighter.

Good point Neri, i was thinking the same, some of these idiots who turn up are absolute fornicating morons, they boo if someone takes a backward step or if a punch hasn't been thrown for 1.5 seconds. One loan twat tried to start a boo in round 8 of Castillo-Munoz II but luckily nobody joined in with him.
Pacquiao-Morales was a good fight, it was a case of Morales just running out steam and the wars catching up with him in my eyes. Prime Morales handles Pacquaio comfortably, Pacquiao's speed, energy and less miles on the clock meant he had the necessary tools to beat Erik who faded badly. Pacquiao-Barrera II has to happen next, i don't want to see a third meeting between these two i don't think Morales has anything left.

I think people are being unfair to Manny saying that Erik just got old. People said the same about Barrera, but he came back to beat Morales in what was a very hard fought fight.
It was those body shots which made Morales old, the same weapon that Barrera has so much success with.
Manny didn't reach with his shots as much this time, and he was more compact, Morales had his moments in the 4th-5th-6th, but Manny simply raised the pace again and really hurt him to the body.
Is it just me or is Pac the ultimate of the right time, right place fighter? Nearly all the major fighters he has beaten I get the feeling would beat the pulp out of him on different nights.
He was fortunate to catch Barerra on one of his more subdued performances when his training camp was dirupted and stopped him.
His power surprised Marquez in the first round but Marquez adapted and schooled him for the remainder of the fight but Pacs first round effort was enough to hold a draw.
And now he has caught Morales when his name is still big but his ability is on the slide and stopped him.
Probably go down in the history books but I feel he has been very lucky with his career so far, the only man to beat both Barerra and Morales, if only he'd of beaten Marquez he would of completed the Mexican trifecta.

havent seen the fight, suprprised that Manny got the stoppage... but in a way i am not surprised Eriks "wheels fell off"....... so many wars over the years...
13 years as a pro....52 fights... constant weight battle (you seen how chubby he gets between fights).... never in an easy fight, always tried to please the crowd...
Much as a would like to see him retire i would like to see him beat Raheem so like Lennox before him he can say he beat every fighter he ever faced

My scorecard upto the ninth, scored live:
RND 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09
PAC 09 10 10 09 09 10 10 10 10
MOR 10 09 09 10 10 09 09 09 09
Round 1 - Right from the start we get a different look to Pacquiao. He isn't blazing out of the game. Looks for openings rather than just charging in wildly. His head movement has become more deliberate and succesfully slips some straight shots by Morales, especially late in the round. Close round for Morales.
Round 2 - Morales is staggered in this round. For some reason he deos not stand up to Pacquiao's blows the way that he did in the first fight. Pacquiao seems to be hurting Morales to the head. Pacquiao also works Morales to the body well in this round.
Round 4 - Pacquaio starts to display a huge improvement by this stage in the fight. Much better than it was in the earlier rounds. Morales is using his aggression to back Pacquiao up, as Manny is using a more passive approach than usual. Morales wins the round with his aggresiveness.
Round 6 - Morales is tagged bad late in the round and almost goes down but is saved by the bell. Morales is showing some serious signs of tiring. His legs are weak. His mobility has suffered from the deposited body shots by Manny. Big Pacquiao round.
Round 7 - Pacquiao deosn't jump on Morales immediately at the start of the round, shows a newly acquired maturity. Pacquiao's patience has payed off as he gets the better of most exchanges. Great action round. Manny gets a slight edge.
Then it all goes downhill from there. Pacquiao just blew Morales away.

What Rot.
1 Raheem is not a shit fighter, and he is a genuine lightweight, Morales came in undertrained and undermotivated against a naturall bigger man.
2 It seems Manny never gets any credit for beating people, it's always because they 'weren't themselves.'
3 Morales looked fine in the 3rd-5th, but Manny went back to fighting his way into range and upped the pace after that, and Morales couldn't match him.

I have got to wonder if Morales conditioning is what it used to be, he seemed very tired, fighting someone of Pacs pace can do that fighters though. I'm of the thinking Morales should just retire - maybe Barrera again 1 more time, he doesnt seem to want Pac again now - but there should be a rubbermatch if he wants to train his ass off for it.

You don't beat legends like MAB and Morales without being something special, that's for sure. This guy has taken on three absolute killers out of Mexico - the world's best - and given them hell. Knocked everyone of them to the canvas, something no one else has managed to do.
He might look a little wild at times, but Manny Pac is an absolutely amazing fighter.
Great heart shown by both, especialy Morales. Sad to see such a great warrior fall apart at the end.
After a series of mega fights, the smoke has cleared and Pac Man is the last man standing.

Think MAB did the same to him in the 3rd fight - caught him with a hellacious uppercut on the tip of his nose that seemed to swing the fight a bit.stujones wrote:It has been reported that Morales suffered a broken nose in the 6th - the turning point of the fight.
It's scary to watch some of the punches Eric Morales has walked through - I was getting worried about his health watching Saturday's fight. Glad the ref waved it off when he did, and I sort of hope Eric calls it a day now.
Doubt he will somehow.
I heard the boos but put it down to some good natured PacMan fans winding up the Mexicans.
I don't think Mexicans would EVER boo Morales.

Spot on mate. There's a lot of sour grapes from people who hated seeing Barrera and Morales getting done over like that.MightyWarrior wrote:Hardhitters11 wrote:He is nothing special at all, Morales lost to Raheem not that long ago remember and although I hoped he would win here he has clearly slipped.

Pacman is an incredible package, and he looked better than ever against Morales, focussed and controlled for most of the fight, he gradually broke down a titanium tough opponent. Nobody EVER came close to stopping Morales before, Manny took him to pieces and he did it with his ferocious body punching in the 6th 7th 8th and 9th. The same weapons that Barrera found so effective against Morales.
Marquez should have gotten the decision against Manny, so there is still an argument, but if he fights like that, it's going to be a very hard fight for Marquez.
Marquez' manager needs to get his thumb out of his arse, and get Marquez to move up. Marquez is rotting away while all the big fights are happening a few pounds above him.
I predict that if they fight, Pacman will beat Barrera just as comprehensively as their first fight.
