I know this may be more suited to The Boxers Of The Past Forum but I thought I would get more response & feedback here.

Anyway as Leicester is my new(ish) hometown I was wondering who do you guys rate as the better fighter Tony Sibson or Chris Pyatt?

Also in a mythical match-up at Middleweight who do you think would have won?

Over 12 rounds, who's the King Of Leicester?

Pyatt was better as a Light-Middle, so you'd probably have to side for Sibson to be to strong for Pyatt at Middle.

Sibbo would have been too strong for Pyatt... interesting fight though!...

I watched Pyatt sparring with Chris Eubank for Eubank's fight with Jarvis, it was a public training session in Manchester. Pyatt actually looked way out of his depth, Eubank beat him up! Ronnie Davies had to tell Eubank to calm down.

Sibson was a far better all round fighter than Pyatt. He was more consistent, a better puncher, stronger/rougher and in my view a heavier hitter. Pyatt wasn't bad, but to my mind he didn't show his best over a long enough period.

If they had fought i'd have gone for Sibson.

I would have to go with Sibson too.

Both got caught out when they stepped up in class. But, Sibson's step ups were against people like Hagler whereas Pyatt's were against people like Rossi.

I liked Pyatt a lot but I think this would be a mid/late round stoppage

Pyatt was much better at 154 than he was at 160 I think... he seemed to have a lot of talent when he won the british 154 title but then went off the rails a bit and through he came back later I don't think he really lived up to his earlier potential....

Ahh, your memory is good but Pyatt floor Eubank twice in private!

Pyatt was a very, very good fighter.

Remember when Eubank used him for sparring he was a world champion in his own right.

Sibson woulda won this one, too strong,Pyatt better at light middle.
Collins walked right through him

Terrific fighter, Chris, and lovely bloke too.

Tony is a great fella as well, but a better fighter than Pyatt. Stronger and a harder puncher too.

at 160 Sibson would stop him in rounds 3 - 6

If memory serves me correctly, wasn't Pyatt a little mechanical? remember him being very powerful with a very good output, but a little bit predictable.

Sibson for sure, but Pyatt was a Light Middle and Sibson a very big middleweight. In this day of fragmented titles Sibson would have been a 'big 4' world champion no doubt about it.

Yeah, Sibson would be too strong. Their styles would meld for an intense war, but I'll go with Pyatt (at his best) getting stopped between 9-12 (even if it were set for 15).

Sibbo rules Leicester then.

I have to admit I also agree with most the points here that the nautrally bigger and stronger Sibson would win this one, by points or late stoppage to my mind, in a bruising, intense fight.

Also it would have been interesting to have seen how the Super-Middleweight division would have suited Sibson.

Both tremendous fellas, but Sibbo would be too big, too strong. Just like Steve Collins was for 'Bo'

There's been talk that on other occasions, Chris Pyatt had the upper hand in sparring...

Both were brilliant boxers, no doubt about it.

Both, particularly Pyatt, don't get the dues they deserve.

Pyatt won British, Commonwealth, European and a WBO title and is 5 losses are not very revealing (1 was a cut, 1 was a UD in Italy, UD to skilled John Jackson, a premature stoppage against Collins and a UD at the close of his career to Foster).

Chris Pyatt is naturally a light-middle and was very small for a middleweight - he bulked-up a lot at that weight and was quite muscular, but perhaps not as sharp as at 154.

Sibson is another great Leices. boxer who let's not forget took on Hagler.

I'm not sure about the outcome of this one. Pyatt would be a lot smaller but always had a good chin and good power on him.

Possibly a UD....either way?
