Pointless sanctioning body trivia game
Give me the top 5 (at least, but a top 10 would make it more interesting) of sanctioning bodies as according to the year their were formed, from earliest first.
Hint :) This is 'modern' era, so WBA are #1 having been formed in '62.
Usual rules apply. Anyone googling or cheating will not, as the socio-liberal climate stands as of now, be arrested, but will be subjected to something which I'll think up later.
1) WBA 1962
2)
3)
4)

WBU was formed in 1994. It's about14th, 15th oldest.stujones wrote:Where was the WBU on Freihart's list? The first one.
Isn't the NBA the same NBA as before, just starting again.
Can't give you a very conclusive answer to the NBA. I'd guess it's just a bunch of guys who picked up the name to grab a bit of the prestige.
It didn't work though, the NBA's champions' list is attrocious (China Smith excepted, of course
If I was a half decent boxer I'd work on unifying all the shit titles minus the top 4 for a laugh.
Just imagine the ring walk as you stroll to the ring with with 32 different people in your entourage all holding up a different "world" title belt.
Then you have your ring introduction where you have a Michael Buffer like figure forced to announce every championship in your collection, the guy holds his breath enough as it is during introductions.
Then in interviews you could refuse to answer any questions until they have addressed you by your proper title and list every single belt you have won in order.

Now there is an idea, all we need is a fighter shit enough to do it. Step forward Mr Audley Harrison.Cannibal wrote:If I was a half decent boxer I'd work on unifying all the shit titles minus the top 4 for a laugh.

Do you really put any merit into a PABA title, or a British title? Honestly, I know the Massachusetts state champ for heavies is like 19-10 in his career. To me, that isn't a champion. Just carries around a very flashy paper weight.Cannibal wrote:I think having 32 "world" titles no matter how insignificant should generate some decent purses but apart from that minor set back one can dream.
A British title is pretty prestigious over here. There have been some excellent British champions AND British championship fights over the years.Mattyp151 wrote:Do you really put any merit into a PABA title, or a British title? I don't put any merit into them at all except the British. I merely said that a man with 32 "world" title belts to his name would generate better purses which he would.
There have been plenty of instances where allegedly has put the WBU belt on one of his fighters to get better TV exposure and purses. You might not have the best record as champ or have the best opposition but you might get regular TV coverage and a good purse.

Few more than that I'm afraid. Murray Watson - what happened to Limmond?; Foster-Simpson, and Alexander-McDonagh. I'll get back to you on which promotion company is staging these global delights

Its nowhere near as bad as it used to be though, the intercontipenticontinental whatevers every week were abysmal. I'd like to see ITV take Sky's stand - real titles. Most of those fights are good matchups do they really need the WBU belt to make them more marketable. In my opinion they're great as non title fights. Seemingly Warren looked to be getting rid of the WBU belts but is now reintroducing them - or we just got lucky as there were no matches that could be made for them for a while!
