Do you Brits care about the biggest sporting event of the year?

Yes we love football/soccer and will definately be tuning in for the 2006 world cup supporting England and Brazil like all true Brits, not sure what your irrelevant superbowl reference was about but chatting to an American girl whos watching it on the phone at the moment

Well i watched it last night and the officials were complete shit and cost me some decent money :x

Wasnt the best of games either.

At one point, I figured the refs should just start throwing the Terrible Towels as penalty flags, seeing as every call went for the Steelers.

To be honest i dont watch the NFL regularly (just the Superbowl) but even i could see that the Seahawks were getting a raw deal in regards to some of the calls.

Considering this is the biggest day in the American sports diary i wouldnt have thought the bias would be so blatant.

You should've seen the previous games. 3 of the games had outcomes that would've been different had the refs not intervened. THey tried to win the game for teams it seemed, and the bad calls were so blatantly bad, it's not even comical. They really need to check their officiating standards before next year.

It sounds like something dodgy has been going on then.

If it has been that bad wont the NFL look into it to find out why? or does this usually happen in American football.

It's been thought for a while the NFL likes to have their refs control the outcome of some games that may giv ethe NFL better ratings. Like if Indianapolis was in the SuperBowl, I'm sure the ratings would've been even better. So theres a conspiracy theory that the NFL told the refs to basically hand the game to Indy, which they almost did.

Missed the Superbowl, it's on at a very inconvenient for us Brits. I caught a lot of the regular season and the rest of the playoffs, though, and I've seen plenty of dodgy calls. Was it really that bad last night?

Yes, I hoesntly didnt care who won, I didn't really give a damn about either team. However, nothing irks me more than when refs take over a game. I'm waiting for the refs to just call the men's college basketball season over and hand the championship to Duke University.

Ive been suffering from insomnia lately and not getting to sleep til late, sure enough put the superbowl on an crashed out 5 mins after kick off

I quite like US footy as it goes but only on highlight shows that are max 2 hrs and show all the best bits.

Used to love the c4 show when i was a kid, walter payton, riggins, thiesman, rice, marcus allen, joe morris, phil simms, marin dupe and clayton aaaah those were the days, Sunday roast on your lap arguing with old man over your fave teams!

I don't like Gridiron, After playing and watching Rugby Union for years i think there all cowards with all that padding. They don't pass the ball while being tackled whats up with that.

I like watching NFL (We have two live games here every sunday + all playoff games). I agree that there was been some questionable calls during the playoffs but I dont think the superbowl was that bad, and the danish commentators didnt say anything about it either.

Rugby and NFL style football are two different types of sports and I dont think you really can compare them.

PS: Biggest sport event of the year: HA (I dont even think its the biggest 1 day event when you look a the world wide tv figures.)

The way that they tackle and smash into one another they need the padding. They are also on average a bit bigger than rugby players even now, and even the big guys run pretty fast.

Different games, require different tools. American football players receive pretty horrific levels of injury to it's obvious they are putting their bodies through some serious trauma, padding or no.
