Thaxton as a Welterweight?

Post by stujones »

I know Jon is convinced he is the best Lightweight in the UK, but it might be worth him looking at the opposition at Welter.

British champ = Light Welterweight who doesn't look invincable.

Also, good chance he could get a commonwealth fight (as the Champion is British).

European Title is about to be vacant (I assume) - With Urkal challenging for the World title, Urkal is well beatable nowadays anyway. Gets involved with that and who knows what pay days beckon.

Just think the devision is more clear cut (with a definate British champion) and with less strength in depth. Outside of Magee (who is very inactive) the devision is very weak domestically.

I assume that Thaxton fought at Welter last night because of the short notice, but I agree Anderson, Barnes, Muttley, Jennings, Hare, Pryce, Magee etc there are some good fights at the weight. Then again there are some good matches at Lightweight and Light-Welter.

I can't see many fighters queing up to face Thaxton so he is probably best covering the three weights and hope to get a Brit/Commonwealth/Euro shot like you say.
