PANASONIC DMRE500HEBS, 400GB HARD DRIVE-Is it any good lads?

This is the only one they had in Richer Sounds.

Anybody got it, know much info since the staff definitely dont.

Can it convert NTSC videos into PAL DVDs or videos...?

Does it tape onto DVD stuff direct off the telly...?

I might buy it this week but as usual i need you boys to hold my hand & help me every step of the way.

Thanks in advance...

I wanna check out its capabilities this saturday by taping the Williams/Skelton fight onto a DVD & see how mint the picture really is. I take it that is possible.

I also have a stack of rare fights on NTSC vidoes so apparently i convert this thru my PC? Does it come with the shit that connects to ya PC? Does it come with some kind of disc that installs whatever programme you use onto your PC?

Cos i dont have internet access at home so i cant download it.

My advise would be that you should ask the store if you could borrow the recorder over the weekend since some features are crusial to you. And if the recorder doesnt live up to your expectations you will deliver it back.

This is the model I hope to get sometime this year. I've heard good things about it. I always buy Panasonic anyway but thanks for the extra recommendation

Actually, I have been told (but never needed it) that it cannot convert NTSC videos, but it can NTSC DVD's. I don't know though, nothing in the instructions says it doesn't. I know it can NTSC DVD's.

Yes, it can do the rest. You'll have to fiddle with the NTSC video, I cannot test it for you - because I don't have any NTSC videos.

I think you need to convert dvds through a pc... try asking Collins 2001 as he seems to have a handle on how to convert NTSC...

First of all, do you REALLY need to convert the NTSC tapes to PAL DVD?

This Panasonic machine WILL record an NTSC signal so if you have a VCR that will output an NTSC signal you can record that. Then you can edit and burn out as NTSC DVDs.

NTSC DVDs will play in 95% or more of PAL DVD players (but not vice versa as people in the USA will confirm).

Well, if it is the 50 and not the 500 - I know once you've got an NTSC DVD you can convert to Pal.

So via having it on an NTSC disc first of all you can convert it.

Convert the NTSC tapes to NTSC DVD via the DVD recorder, then convert the NTSC DVDs to PAL DVDs via Stu's method.
