Witter vs Corley for WBC title (PBF vacates)

Floyd Mayweather's advisor Leonard Ellerbe has informed Boxingtalk.com that Undefeated pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather has decided to vacate his WBC junior welterweight title. The decision permits Junior Witter and DeMarcus Corley, who has been training with Mayweather for the last six months, to face off for the vacant title. Mayweather's team had been informed by representatives of Ricky Hatton that a fight between the two could not be made until at least 2007. In his letter to the WBC Mayweather stated that he wanted to give two other boxers the opportunity to pursue their dreams of winning the green WBC belt and promised the WBC that he would look to fight for their titles at 147 and 154 in the near future. Corley is past it. His heart hasnt been it it since Zab won that SD over him, although he did give Mayweather and Cotto (especially) some serious trouble.

Corely is an underated fighter imo, how do people think Junior gets on in this one?

Looks like 2006 for Hatton will be Collazo, Rabah and the Baldomir, Gatti winner. Good way of spending your prime

Great news for Witter, i wonder where the fight will take place, over in the US or the UK ???

What will happen to the Lauri fight does Witter still fight this or does he cancel or take the fight for the vacant belt after the Lauri fight presuming he wins ???

Im not 100% sure about this, but Witter can call off the EBU fight, but should he lose the WBC fight he can be made EBU mandatory for 2 years(?) but he can still fight in voluntary defenses.

Excellent news, junior really needs to regain his old form and develop his stamina to beat corley. Corley would also make Junior pay for wild swings and leaving openings. If hes on his game he can stop Corley

Interesting bout if it happens, not sure what Corely has done to warrant a shot - but if Witter doesn't buck up his ideas, Corely could win it.

He hasn't got Tszyu's power and Cotto hasn't got Hatton's chin.

Although I cannot say, I'm at all surprised with your prediction.

Do you think Lenny Daws would beat Hatton? What about David Barnes?

I would never go as far as agreeing with that twat Livra but I think Hatton could have some problems with Corley, as anyone would.

Hatton hasn't really fought a decent slickster yet, Hutchinson probably being the best he has fought.

Interesting Match. Witter turned down Chop-Chop when he was #1 contender withthe WBO and (Wittter) he was probably a better fighter back then wheras Corley is still on top of his game.

At least it will see HAtton move up to 147 and as far away from Witter as he can. Would be great if Hatton and Witter met in the UK for the U/D title at 140 but Hatton will scuper that in fear of losing.

Anybody know why Witter didn't fight Corley for the WBO belt, why did Witter turn his shot down ???

Quite how Corley gets this opportunity is beyond me, surely a win over Johnny Walker isn't that impressive. Is John Murray in line for a shot as well?

That aside, It's a great opportunity for Witter, and a winnable fight. He'll have to perform a lot better than his recent efforts though, Corley is still good enough to make Junior pay if he's as amateurish as he was against Lynes.

Corley isn't the hardest of hitters though and is hardly gonna come after Junior and put a lot of pressure on him.

I think a lot will depend on Junior catching Corley early. If he doesn't I think he'll run out of ideas and lose a UD

Close fight, winnable for either man, something tells me Corley wins this though, Witter's looked a bit out of sorts lately, and Corley is fast, mobile and although not a puncher, hits hard enough got get Witters respect.
