Colin: Baby Joe Gans
Colin: Baby Joe Gans
Colin? Can you double-check his Feb. 14/15, 1930 bout with Billy Drako? I have a day-after saying it occurred Feb. 14 at NYC, and that it was a TKO-7(10).
HI Ric
My source is the Ring Record Book 1941. I would not be surprised at all if the bout was on 14 February. The RRB commonly has the bout the day after it actually occurred, I presume taking the results from the next days paper without making the adjustment. It does however give McKeesport as the site of the bout as was Gans' two preceeding bouts (against Andy DiVodi and Joe Coffman) and gives it as a KO6 for Gans. I will check the New York Times on Thursday and see what it says.
I have found, as I said, that the RRB frequently has the day after as the fight date but I have also come across entries where they were exactly one week out on several occasions, suggesting that their source may have been a weekly publication and once again the date of publication was given as the date of the fight. Anyone else noticed this ?.
