Post by overhand_right »

Because of location ive had to switch to another gym where the box of gloves are fcukin dilapidated. i need to buy some of my own but cant work out what the best to get are since the trainers are only interested in flogging the ones they have access to rather than help me out.

You guys who train what do you recommend. Oh yeah and what about the different ounces etc.

Dunno what the best websites are wither havent been impressed by any. help me out ladys

Depends what you want to spend, I've always liked 'Title' brand, but you do pay more for them.
they have a nice shape to the gloves and seem well made.

Agree with Topper.

I use Title 16 oz gloves (although I only need them for pad work and body sparring) - they are great for this.

I got a pair of 18oz gloves. I find them good for sparring, more so because when you take them off and wear, say, 10oz gloves for bag work, you punches are like razor sharp and fast.

However, my favourite brand is Cleto Reyes or Everlast.

Never liked Everlast. Their kits breaks.

Hard to beat Lonsdale, although not always easy to get hold of.

Some great fcuking advice here.. "the best ojnes are the ones that work best for you" thanks man i really can afford to buy every brand out there & assess them.

Whats the difference between the ounces, whats the point?

Im leaning towards BBE or Lonsdale, dont like the sound of everlast...

Cheer up

BBE are decent - I've had a pair of bag gloves from them that lasted a while and I also had one of their angle bags hanging at home in the garage. Strap broke, though. Got through plenty of work before then but 2 years shouldn't be the shelf life, especially as I was away at university half that time. BBE give you a discount if you're a member of a club as well. At least they used to, but then I went straight to their shop / office / factory place in Preston (as was).

Heavier gloves are harder work. Also, be careful if you do go for heavy gloves as 14-18 ounces are often sparring gloves which aren't great for bagwork - padding is looser and more for hand protection and opponent protection, whereas in a bag glove the padding is tighter and entirely for hand protection.

BBE do some decent bag gloves, and they are on the cheaper side without missing out on quality.
but i used to find BBE sparring ones 14/18oz were just a bit to big in size, I preferred the 'Title' brand sparring gloves for that.

10oz!?!?!? You lazy sod :D  You are going to be fighting in 8's so you'd be better of training in 12's or even 14's if you are feeling hard!! 14's may slow you down a bit.

Reyes are the bling bling glove, but they are a million quid, I fing Ergo gloves are really good value for money. The pro contest glove they do is well nice!!!! 01515 237 805

I use 16 Oz Title gloves - I personally really rate these and know other Amateurs and some pro's who use them -

Have a look here, it's 20% off and free delivery which is about the cheapest I have seen.

I know the feeling of using someone else's "used" gloves - it's foul....

I'd agree with the others, 10oz is to small for sparring really, you want 14/16oz gloves.

Bugger that, for an extra £5 you could get Cleyto Reyes!! They are the best out there.

McGuirk £30 specials have done me well, 10oz weight... real good leather and the padding in the right place..ideal for bag work.
If your still active in the ring then I`d use competition gloves for pad work if you can afford them...and as said 16oz+ sparring gloves.

I`d guess most club amateurs spar with whatever the club has got in a usable state 10oz-18oz...quickest one to the box gets the 10`s

I never like to post a new thread if theres an old one

Ive started boxing training and my uncle gave me a pair of 14oz Lonsdale gloves that looked like they came from the ark... comfy as fcuk tho.

the trainer said they didnt have enough padding over the knuckle to use in sparring - fair enough - but they are fine for bagwork and pads.

Ive therefore gone and picked up a pair of Ergo 16oz gloves (from boxfit might as well give them a shout)... I'm happy enough with them I just wanted to post a thread about gloves but there was already one here...
