Librado Andrade stopped him in 8, to earn a shot at Beyer's WBC title.

Gutted about this, cause Grant is (apparently) a very nice bloke with a heart of gold, still teaches under priveledges kids.

However, cannot say I am surprised - he is nowhere near the fighter he once was... he's still surprised alot of people though with how far he got in his comeback.

Grant vs Calzaghe in 1999 would have been a mouthwatering clash.

stujones, I love the fact that you know so much about these fighters that dont live anywhere near your area!

I agree about Grant, he's been overmatched several times in his career now...I would say the Jones fight was an even bigger mismatch then this fight, and he did well in it.

Grant should never have gne up to light heavy. He was never a big midlde. But he was a good middle in the 1990s, was one of the top pros who exposed the silly Ingle style when beating Rhodes (sadly the Naz imitators still abound, i.e. Haskins and Froch), and would've made a good challenge to Hopkins. The only guys you can really moan that Hopkins didn't fight are Grant, Lonnie Bradley and Harry Simon.

I'd add Winky Wright to that list aswell VM.

thing is, Winky never went up to middle whilst Hopkins was a formidable champion. i think it was a month before Hopkins 'lost' to Taylor that WW beat Trinidad

Agree, but there was always the P4P angle (both in the top 3) when he beat Mosley.

The only other match I could think was the guy who most beat people think beat DLH (I didn't BTW) and that Felix Sturm.

I would hasten to add Felix Sturm to the Middleweight mix as a serious contender. I reckon he has the ability to give any of the top Middleweights a run for their money, Sturm V Abraham? I know where my money would be, Sturm showed versus DLH and Masoe that he is a genuine threat.

Yeah, been told by people who DO live near him, plus it is nearly always mentioned when his name is brought up on TV here (such as the Eurosport coverage of his last win) - what a nice guy he is.

sturm is really part of the next generation (post hopkins, i mean). very good fighter he is, he looked very good against Masoe and DLH.

I do like to see a great fight finish his legacy by fighting and beating some of the next generation superstars... Hopkins did fight (and for my money beat) Taylor, but Taylor vs Sturm would be fascinating.

Lewis really did cement his legacy with the Grant, Tua, Briggs, Klitchsko wins IMO.

I agree with that, actually would have given Otis a real chance with Beyer still... Beyer's power is not what it was, and I think Otis could have outworked him.

Beyer would have been the favourite, but it would have been competitive.

Warren tried do delay it until 2009, but this didn't quite work out.

Agreed Gutted for Grant, who is a really nice guy... but this kid seems to be the real deal.... i reckon he will knock out Beyer who hasnt the legs to fight the fight he needs to for 12 rounds
