Having upped the bet to truly ridiculous stakes, Hobson needed to find a clever way out. In a press release, he stated; "Frank knows as well as I do that Calzaghe will be the betting favorite at the bookies and that Clinton will probably start perhaps a 3-1 underdog. If I put £500,000 on Clinton to win with any high street betting shop I'd win £1.5million, not the £500,000 I would with any bet with Frank".

After sliding out of the original bet, Hobson is now changing the rules of engagment:

"Frank can pick any big name bookies he wants and as long as he agrees to match their odds - whatever they may be - for Clinton to win then I'll gladly have a half a million bet with him. Even more if he wants to - he can name the stakes"...

FA want the fight but only FW can make it. JC is the star in this match up and he will put the bums on seats, not Woods.

It was Dennis Hobson that picked the fight with Warren and Warren has showed him up for what he is, a bag of hot air. Hilarious! Does Hobson ot know that Warren comes from a bookie background and will give Hobson the odds he wants and will chase him up an alley until he either accepts or looks stupid in public.

Hobson is going to get his trousers taken down by Warren in public and it is going to be hilarious. Calzaghe will tee off on Woods all night and even the most pro-Woods pundit cannot say any different. If it were not for his World title Woods would be mocked as a challenger for JC.

IMO Hobson is trying too hard to play in the big league and will fail miserably. His ego and obvious lack of knowlegde of Boxing is there for all to see and I wonder how poor old Clinton Woods must be thinking reading all this thinking of the pressure his Manager is putting him under and trying to be the star of the show.

Warren must think it's Christmas when fools like Hobson enter the game and spash their cash. Go Franky, put the money up and clean up and give us all a laugh I say.

500,000, 100,000 who cares. Just make the fight, as Calzaghe is never going to face Kessler.

Woods is a good fighter now, but the more I think about it he won't be able to beat Calzaghe. JC's just too fast and good for him. IMO there's too many options for good fights at 160 - Winky moving up, providing he beats Taylor - and 168 - Beyer, Kessler, Bute, Andrade, Green, Mundine

Kessler has tried - and keeps trying to make the fight happen. He said right after Lacy-Calzaghe that he'd wanna persue Calzaghe to light-heavy if necessary.
Problem is Warren is looking for financially bigger fish to fry. Not much Kessler can do about that.
Basicly it's all in the hands of Warren. If they want it, they can have it. If they don't, noone can force them.

allegedly has agreed to lay odds in a personal bet with Clinton Woods' promoter Dennis Hobson, offering him the chance of winning almost a million pounds on the outcome of a fight with Joe Calzaghe.

Fight Academy and Hobson first expressed an interest in having money on a fight between WBO/IBF super-middleweight champion Calzaghe and IBF light-heavyweight champion Woods two weeks ago, offering a £100,000 side bet that his man would emerge victorious. Warren upped the ante to £500,000. Hobson then demanded that Warren offer him odds or no bet.

"Frank can pick any big name bookies he wants and as long as he agrees to match their odds - whatever they may be - for Clinton to win then I'll gladly have a half a million bet with him," said Hobson in a press release. "He can name the stakes."

Warren has now contacted Mike Dillon of Ladbrokes and is prepared to match the 7-4 odds being offered by them. He says he'll also throw in a £400,000 pay day for Woods - more than he's ever earned in his career - to get the fight on at the Millennium Stadium on July 8.

"I'm offering Hobson the chance to win £875,000, which coupled with Woods' purse, means that £1,275,000 will be on the table if Woods wins," said Warren. "I've consistently asked 'Zipper Neck' to put his money where his mouth is, and now we'll see whether he has the confidence he claims to have in Woods.

"In his last press release, Hobson asked if I thought his head zipped up at the back, as I'd asked him for a 50-50 bet on the outcome of Calzaghe-Woods. It's a shame his head doesn't zip up at the front, because then he might engage his brain before opening his mouth and making offers that make him look foolish and will land him in serious financial trouble.

"Hobson has a letter confirming the offer, yet again I have done as he has asked so the only answer he can have now is that the fight is on. We will both lodge our respective stakes with the British Boxing Board of Control under their rules."

Warren also attacked Hobson over claims Calzaghe turned down a £1 million offer to fight Woods on Sky Box Office.

"It will be interesting to know what Hobson is paying his own fighter. If I was Woods hearing about all these million pound offers being made by Hobson, I would look at my pay check on the 13th May and ask where’s mine. Clinton Woods needs Calzaghe, not the other way round. ITV supported Joe Calzaghe in helping to get the Jeff Lacy fight on and that is where his next fight will be. Everything that Hobson has asked for he has got, so let’s forget all these nonsense and get the fight on

OUCH. FW is really backing Hobson into a corner. I don't give Woods too much chance here, and DH is going to lose his shirt.

Best not to take the bet, even at those odds, but then it'll look bad for his fighter if he does back down.

Maybe go for it, but have a quiet even bigger bet on JC

Fair play to Frank.

No way can FA afford to lay out £500k. They might be able to round up £500k in cash but I expect they would have to remortgage assets.

He really has called their bluff.

I wouldnt even accept 10/1. Joe would easily outpoint Clinton.

Where else is Woods gonna mak ethat sort of money?

How many defences against the Desiles of this world would it take to make the same?

I think FA and Clinton should take this match - its a more sensible to go head to head with Calzaghe for 400 grand then to have a 3rd fight with Johnson for what I imagine would be a far smaller purse.

Yeah, it's quite simple actually. Warren is laying Woods for £500k at odds of 7/4. That means that if Calzaghe wins, FW gets £500k. If Woods wins, FA gets £875k.

£500k at 7/4 = £500k x 7 = £3500k / 4 = £875k.
