can anyone provide a bio on famed hall of famer ring announcer johnnie addie? web searches have produced nothing and IBHOF has nothing either.
any info would be appreciated.

johnnie addie
A good ring announcer really adds to the event. I liked Ben Bentley ,Jimmy Lennon sr. I dont dig Michael Buffers routine either. Decagon might have been drinking a few P.B.Rs, but hes right about that lets get ready to rumble crap.... Only kiddin about the P.B.R Decagon . Thats more for yahoos like myself.

dear decagon,
thanks for your insights regarding johnnie addie. a few of us want to know about the man outside of the ring. family, children, interests hobbies etc. very little is available from the sources i've looked up.
i agree that he was one of a kind. his voice made everything sound like an important event rather a fight. he did have style and class and he did it so effortlessly.
as for your take on michael buffer, to me he's more showbiz than ring announcer. i'm ok with it but i think the old time announcers put the emphasis on the fighters and the fight rather than on themselves.
jimmy lennon jr reminds me very much of his father. he has that certain elegance about him his father had.
splitting hairs, you could say that johnnie addie was east coast and jimmy lennon was west coast and each was the par excellance of their profession.
if you have any more info, bring it on.
thanks for your time,
