Froch: is it squeaky-bum time?

http://www.hennessysports.com/upload/24 ... och250.jpg

The announcement that Carl Froch’s mandatory defence of his British super middleweight title against Brian Magee would take place on Friday May 26th prompted a lot of noise from the challenger’s camp.

This was followed by accusations that the champion was being worryingly tight lipped. A few weeks on, the roles have been reversed.

As the fight draws near, there is a deafening silence from Magee’s typically vocal manager Pat Magee, (no relation), promoter Frank Maloney and the fighter himself. Froch wonders if the reality of their situation has finally dawned on them.

“Maybe it’s squeaky-bum time,” said the 28-year-old from Nottingham. “It’s easy to shout the odds when the fights a couple of months away, but now its almost here it’s a different business; you really have to believe it.”

He continued: “I haven’t got that much of a problem with Brian Magee saying that he thinks he is going to beat me, he’s a boxer, that is his job – he has to believe in himself.

“But as far as I am concerned Pat Magee, whoever he is, and Frank Maloney have spoken a lot of rubbish about this fight. Why has it stopped now? Perhaps they have just begun to realise that I am about to expose their knowledge of boxing.

“I didn’t know who Pat Magee was before this fight and I don’t think we will be seeing much of him afterwards.

“Brian Magee actually seems like quite a nice person, so it’s a pity that he is going to have to pay the price for them spouting off – if he turns up.”

Froch is known for speaking his mind. This is the first time, however, he has commented on this second defence of his British Title - with good reason.

“I’ve got the fight I wanted, so I have been getting my head down and getting in shape to do a number on Magee,” he added. “But now I’m concerned that team Magee might bottle it.

“They may be starting to feel uncomfortable with the hype they have built up, so I just want to go on record to say that I am looking forward to May 26th. If this fight doesn’t happen, it won’t be because I don’t want it.”

Bollocks......... Froch is a mouthy fcuker before every fight, this is the first time he has ever been silent in the build up to a fight.

Why would that be then? Because he knows he's heading into very deep waters.

He's not fooling me by that statement. Magee has had plenty to say, its Froch who has not been selling this fight, end off.

Magee will win this fight, of that i am sure. Get on this double:

Magee to beat froch @ 7/4
Castillo to beat Coralles @ 1/2

Thank me later :TU:

Maybe the silence is because his last two performances coupled with Calzaghe's statement what true world class is, has made Froch realise he is not what he thought he was.

I think Magee might do it, to say Froch is overrated is an absolute understatement! His last 2 performances have been average at best he'll need to show a lot more to beat Magee. I think Magee will outbox him for long periods, I just wonder if Magee can hold Froch's punches.

An ancient and dodgy looking Robin Reid put Magee down several times and although Froch is pretty open himself there is no way Magee will do anything but get stopped in this one. Froch wins by KO inside 10.

7/4 on Magee seems crap to me, he should be atleast 2/1, maybe 3/1

I think Reid hits harder than Froch, Froch's much vaunted power is overrated.

My intial thought is that Froch will soak up what Magee has to offer and walk him down for a stoppage, looking wreckless and wild on the way.

Thinking on, what makes the fight intriguing to me is that Froch can be outboxed and has been outboxed by people of a lesser standard than Magee.

I guess a lot is going to hang on how the first 2-3 rounds pan out and if Magee can take Frochs power.

Its a good fight.

You've been saying this from the day the match was made and respect is due to you for not flinching the the face of many opposing opinions, no matter what the result.
Frock looked a bit shitty last time out, but I still favour him to chin Magee.

Probably true, but Froch would need to lose an arm not to hit Magee more often than Reid did. Magee is a KO waiting to happen in this fight.

This fight is going to be Magee-Reid II, mark my words. Froch doesn't hit hard enough to stop Magee, but does hit hard enough to drop him. Likewise, Magee is a good enough boxer to expose the glaring faults in Froch's style. It will be close, and probably controversial on the cards. Froch maybe wins it on aggression.

115-113 Froch, and a disputed decision. I've never been so sure about the outcome of a close fight. Of course, I will be very, very wrong now. But my prediction is out there, so any Magee fans can abuse me for it as much as they want. Looking forward to this one big time though.

I am backing froch but I have more faith in him than the rest of you. I imagin he has been quiet up to this point because its not a Hennassy promotion. Froch by KO and early in the fight. Hopefuly he will go for a european shot next if he can get Tsypko out of germany or if Tsypko vacates and he gets a shot for the vacant title.

I'm thinking that Froch is in fact better than he's looked in his last two fights especially and will pull his finger out in this one and look impressive by Koing Magee in about 5 to 7 rounds... but if Froch come in with the form and attitude that he seemed to have in his recent fights then I could see Magee pulling off a shock... this is a fight Froch really needs to look good in if he's going anywhere, Magee with no disrespect is pretty average with a poor chin and should be made for Carl...

A shock to you, maybe. Almost everyone on here is expecting Froch to win this fight, and by KO, but i doubt very many will be 'shocked' if Magee is victorious! If they are, then i would seriously have to question there judgement.

Magee was scared shitless in with Reid, and how much did Reid land? not much, but enough to deck brian with single shots. Froch will be younger, fresher, hungrier and much busier than Reid was, and Magee will be shitting himself just as much. fighting defensive isn't going to cut it for him, and if he opens up he'll get detonated.

Froch KO5 or even earlier.

I hope for your sake you're right............you have been banging on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about this fight for the last 4000 years, taking great pleasure in pointing out that this is a dead cert.

If Magee gets spanked, you are going to have a considerable portion of humble pie to get through.

Of course it is possible that Magee will win, but in boxing where anything can change with 1 punch, such a prediction on a fighter with such a fragile beard, is either bold as brass or foolish, we shall see which. :TU:

Yep that LARGE pie is being freshly baked next week, with only the finest ingredients, including some free range HUMBLE, in order to serve up to ALI on Sunday morning for breakfast.

Froch will pulverize Magee :TU:

Yeah, I meant to mention this earlier, why is losing a controversial decision to Tsypko meant to be a badge of excellece? Tsypko isn't exactly an all conquering world beater is he?

No, but he's far better than anyone Froch has faced.

Well we will see won't we, but I personally would be shocked because I very much doubt that Magee has what it takes to beat Froch... get ready for lots of pie mate, with mustard on!...

Far better? Better perhaps, but list Magee's stellar achievements. Matthew Barney did well against Ulrich, and was roundly beaten by Froch. Admittedly, Barney is far from a world beater, but I've not really seen anything from Magee that suggests he is genuine world class, or even that close to it. Froch may not be either, but his punch power makes this contest an uneven fight in my opinion. Looking forward to finding out.
