BoxRec has this fourth & final meeting between these two listed as a 12 round unanimous decision victory for Lopez when infact according to the ringside report on the fight written by one Christopher Coats in the October 1978 issue of THE RING ( vol. LVII no. 9 ) it was a majority decision won by scores of 144-142, 145-141 & 146-146 by Lopez over 15 rounds.
The detailed coverage of the fight lists action for all rounds contested with special attention to the final three "championship" rounds ( it was for both the THE RING magazine's US title & the California State Light Heavyweight title ) as it the fight was apparently even after 12 rounds & rounds 13 - 15 were hotly contested & action packed.
Please verify this at your convenience & reflect it in both fighter's records as I'm sure both men & their people would appreciate an accurate representation of all four of their contests in what was surely one of THE "golden ages" of the 175 lb class.
Thank you.
Yaqui Lopez - Jesse Burnett IV on 7/2/78 WAS a 15 rounder
Well, all right!
Thanks for making the proper adjustments necessary in order to accurately detail both Lopez's & Burnett's careers. Even though in the grand scheme of things, those extra three rounds may not seem all that important, I'm sure that they'd appreciate knowing that every single round that they spent inside the ropes is accounted for correctly.
I'm glad I could help with making it possible for this site do so.
Peace.
