Post by KOJOE90 »

Apparently former Mr Olympia Franco Columbu in his youth was a Boxer. He claimes to have been Featherweight Champion Of Italy I assume as he is not listed on our database this was an Amatuer Title.

Anybody know anmore about this?

>>>weightlifters and strongmen who think they are going to be great boxers because they are big, strong, powerful guys. They usually get a rude awakening when they discover that, unlike dumbells in the gym, boxers hit you back.<<<

Ain't that the truth!!! I have seen several people, who were wimpy all through school, then they discover body-building and get a couple of admirers who think they have to be tough guys, but underneath all the muscle is still the same wimpy person, just packaged different.

I saw a similar example of this a couple of years ago...this young punk talked and talked about how much better of an athelete he was since he picked up weight lifting and how far he could throw a football and how hard he was able to throw a baseball due to his weight lifting, but when it came time to demonstrate the guy threw like his little sister.

Now strongmen are a bit different than weight-lifters.

Throwing punches and baseballs (cricket balls, footballs etc ) requires snap power. If you bulk up like a bodybuider, you lose that flexiblity in your muscles, and you lose that snap, and you become big and useless. But on the other hand, if you are bodybuilding then mabey wrestling would be better, as it desnt require that bursting snapping co-ordination. Must be the reason why alot of MMA guys are on roids and spend lot of their time bodybuilding. Thats why I think weight lifting in boxing is no good.

In the film Pumping Iron you see a clip of Franco working out on the heavybag and he appears to know what he is doing. You also see a framed picture of a young (and much slimmer) Franco wearing Boxing gloves.
