VIP BOXING PROMOTION ON THE 18TH JUNE 2006
Another cracking event held at the GH Carnell Leisure centre in Manchester saw 7 good fights and included 3 wins for the VIP stable of boxers :-
Mark Thompson - The raw talent who entered the gym with an unimpressive amateur record continued his development under the Harrison brothers and marched through Alex Stoda to score a first round TKO win after decking him early in the round with a left hook. The barrage that followed left the referee no alternative but to stop the fight and save the pole from further damage !!!, Mark will next box on the David Haye show on the 21st July and hopes to close his first season off with an 8-0 record.
Craig Bunn - The 19 year old moved to 3-0 with a points win over Ryan Rowlinson from Leeds. Unlike Thompson ,Bunn has a good amateur pedigree and in patches showed his class including a short right hand counter punch that decked his opponent in the first.A criticism off Bunn was that after this knock down he tended to load up looking for the KO and ignore his boxing ability. He still came through a 60-53 winner and will learn from the experience , better is to come.
JAMES BROWN - The 18 year old had his pro debut and eased in with a comfortable 60 - 54 win over the ever ready Peter Buckley who allowed the debutant to settle into the new scene and produce some sharp moves. Jimbo produced short spells of quality boxing but is still very much a boy and will take time to develop.
The 4 other fights also produced good entertainment with wins for Abdhul Rashid, Johny Rocco , Prince Arron and Amer Khan over Darren Stubbs for the Central Area Light Heavyweight title. This fight need a special mention as after a slow start which saw Khan take a big lead , produced the fight of the day. Stubbs fought his way back and the last 3 rounds were as entertaining as I have seen - for shear heart and determination - with Khan being put over in the eighth which saw him saved by the bell and then surviving the Stubbs onslaught of punches which if had been picked better would surely have seen him the winner.Khan won 96-95 and VIP would love to put on any rematch.
