Two Ton Tony Golanta (Don't know about the spelling). He was the fat bald guy who was a contender in the 30's and 40's and fought Louis for the title, and dropped him in the third. He was a brutally dirty figher. He elbowed, used laces, headbutt, every thing. He could punch too. Tough guy.
Greb was a dirty fighter, even for his era. Not all fighters were like him in that era. I agree they were not as easily penalized, but headbutts, elbows, laces were all illegal moves that although were let go more than they should have been were only used by dirty fighters. Greb was very very dirty and would do anything to win. Discriptions of his fights with Tunney will tell you that. Even during that era he was known as a dirty figher. That says alot.
Holyfield never use to be a dirty fighter (no more than the average figher) but has to use those tactics as he gets older and his skills are deteriorating. Against Tyson I remember Tyson running in and causing a head collision that almost dropped himself. It was in the 7th or some thing like that. Then Tyson complains about Evander headbutting! Watch the fight you can''t miss it. Holyfield knows were to put his head and is always face down when in the trenches...young fighers should take note, that is how you have your head when in close.
Duran was pretty dirty, he won the title with a low blow! Tyson was a brutal dirty guy. Bittng, hitting after the bell, arm locks, elbows, and the odd time hitting low (against Ruddock he was docked a couple of times for it). Golota is famous for his fouls among other things.
Bowe was a pretty dirty figher. He was really dirty against Holyfield. Hitting after the bell (Holyfield retaliated) hitting Low (lifted Evander off his feet in the last round of the rematch), Hitting behind the head (he loved doing that against Evander), and his fight with that tilhary (not sure about the guys name) guy was brutal. Even his manager Newman got into the fight! Poetic justice when he fought Golota most said at the time.
Dempsey was not so much dirty but merciless. Hit sharkey low often than KO'ed him when he tried to complain to the ref. Very tough, vicious fighter. Sharkey was a pretty dirty guy too. Lots of bouts he is known to have fought dirty in. Not too many feel sorry for him when recalling the Dempsey fight (kind of like Bowe-Golota).
Holmes elbow against Holyfield was pretty good.

Dirtiest fighter of all-time ?
The Willie Pep-Sandy Saddler's was considered as very dirty fights.

The Greatest dirty Champ was Hank!
Don't forget the Great Henry Armstrong, why he elbowed you and hit below the belt nearly every round, it's a fact. The NY papers mentioned that he wouldn't mine if the other boy fought the same. It was his style.

first..The Olympic thing was a blatant snow job
..and most of the people crying about Holy's dirty tactics are Mike Tyson fans who couldn't deal with the fact that Evander is and has always been a superior fighter..
Yes Mike tyson the man who bragged about hitting Tyrell Biggs with kidney punches and "making him scream like a woman"... He's the dirtiest ever.
Dirty tactics by Holyfield ...It was just one of the excuses that Tyson and his fans offered after his disgraceful and absoulutely craven capitulation in the second fight with Evander

Holyfield is blatantly dirty... The olympic thing was a bad call, but he did hit when the ref said break.zurdo wrote:first..The Olympic thing was a blatant snow job

No doubt Holyfield is a rough customer in the ring But so wereall his main rivals Lewis,Bowe Foreman, Moorer, Ruiz and especially Mike Tyson.... all use rough tactics. They are fighting for millions of dollars so it's understandable if not excusable
I've never heard Evander be a crybaby about it... like Mike Tyson turned out to be
Actually the dirtiest fighter i ever saw were not heavyweights...
I think Eusebio Pedroza is the dirtiest fighter I've ever seen..with maybe Samuel Serrano rating consideration based on the one fight i saw him in with Diablito Valdez

Dirtiest fighter of alltime, truly!
How can you have a dirtiest fighter of all time topic and not even mention Mysterious Billy Smith? Jeez, the guy was considered extremely dirty even for his day (and like in Grebs case, that says a lot!). He was disqualified 10 times in his career (again, during his era when you could do ALOT of foul stuff!). Before one of his fights with Jersey Joe Walcott, he threatened to bite his ears off.. and he actually bit him in the head during another. Now, i dont remember the specifics of all his fights.. but ive never read of a dirtier fighter. He makes Mike Tyson look like a choirboy, belive me. Look him up!

'Elbows' McFadden
Dirtiest Fighter of all time was a 19th century boxer called 'Elbows' McFadden, who was disqualified from most of his fights by following through with the elbow and starting a riot in the process.
Re: Dirtiest fighter of alltime, truly!
That wasn't Jersey Joe. That was Barbados Joe, the original Joe Walcott. Smith would be hard pressed to get outta the first round without being DQed today.Eltoro wrote:How can you have a dirtiest fighter of all time topic and not even mention Mysterious Billy Smith? Dirtiest Fighter of All Time
I won't say he was the Dirtiest Fighter of All Time but he certainly belongs on the list of dirty fighters.
Growing up as a child I would hear many stories of my Father's (Joe Muscato) boxing career, and one story I often heard was of how Big Bill Weinberg would get frustraded when he could not land the big shots on his opponents and spit in his opponents face during a clinch.
My Father & Weinberg fought each other twice during their careers, and I recall even my Dad remarking that Weinberg was the dirtiest fighter he ever fought, commenting on how Weinberg would spit on him in the clinch! :x :x
