Amir denies dangerous driving
Boxer Amir Khan has pleaded not guilty to dangerous driving following an accident in his home town of Bolton.
The 19-year-old Olympic silver medallist appeared before Bolton magistrates on Thursday.
The charge relates to an incident in March on Bradshawgate in the town centre when a man suffered a broken leg when he was hit by a car.
The case was transferred by magistrates to Bolton Crown Court for a hearing on 21 September.
Khan, who lives in Lostock, Bolton, was given unconditional bail.
The teenager shot to fame at the 2004 Olympics when he won a silver medal.
After the Athens games, he signed a reported £1m contract to turn professional, and has yet to be beaten in the ring as a pro.

I thought it had been established that he drove the car into the guy at a crossing so hwo can he deny it???.... or is he denying that he was driving dangerously and infering that the unfortunate chap attempted to cross the road in a reckless and dangerous fashion?>>>... after all people can be lethal when crossing the road, especially when they try and headbutt you in your car... outrageous!!...

this happened recently in my home place, a young lad took his dads porche and was caught driving it at around 130 mph, he was charged with dangerous driving.
When it went to court he was let off because although he was doing 130mph he wasn't actually driving in a reckless way, so was therefore not dangerous driving.
mad isn't it

As I said, you don't know the circumstances of the case yet. Just because he is driving a fast car, we don't know for a fact that he was travelling fast. As for the guy being on a crossing, you don't have automatic right to cross the road because you are at a crossing, you are meant to wait for the traffic to stop. Amir could have been doing 30 mph when the guy just walked into the road.overhand_right wrote:Imagine if Boy Racer had ran over your brother or mum or grandma, i dont give a f--k if he hasnt done anything to me personally teach the god damn speed demons to have some kind of respect for fellow human life when they want to travel at light speed in their souped up cars.
I don't know whether that's the case, but you're convicting the guy without knowing anything.

none of us know fornicate all about the circumstances of the crash.
the naz crash was widely reported and it was obvious naz had really fucked up.
until i hear more i ain't slagging khan off on this one.
Well unless the guy jumped in front of Amirs car the onus was on him to stop. When your driving youre supposed to be going slow enough to deal with people suddenly walking out in front of you etc and especially when approaching a crossing... from what I've heard Amir was going to fast to stop... hence bump into man and one broken leg... surprised really that he's trying to deny responsibility for it... should just plead guilty and take his punishment like a man...

Well, his brief must be confident then if he has denied it. This means he is likely to get longer if he is convicted. It is not dangerous driving if you fail to brake in time because someone steps out into the road without looking or without giving you adequate time to brake. Dangerous driving implies you are not in control of the vehicle and endangering the lives of others as a result.

I'm not an expert but surely if he was 'speeding' then that can be construed as dangerous driving. Considering people only get 3 to 6 months for killing people with their cars I dont see Khan going to jail for this, ...thats why I'm surprised he's contesting it.
Then again, the 'victim' is probably lining up a big claim for compensation... these cases probably get more complex when you have a lot of money and earning power like Khan does... bottom line is that he never should have been given the car in the first place... sheer madness...
