Congratulations Boxrec, particularly to the regulars who have worked tirelessly. I don't think this forum is as good as it was, but I think that's the case for British boxing forums as a whole, best explained by general apathy towards British boxing - fights cancelled, on/off, injuries, same old debate, promoter infighting, sheer boredom.

As is mine, I've little or no interest in domestic boxing. However, we do have Hatton, Woods, Harrison (maybe), Calzaghe, and maybe Witter and Cookie at world level, so it's not so bad. It's the paucity of meaningful domestic clashes which are leading somewhere which is really dissapointing. These days if a fighter is likely to be heading for world class, the last thing that will happen is him taking on a fellow British prospect.

Have to agree in some ways guys. My subscription to Boxing News has just expired and I won't be renewing. Do you know I've barely missed a copy for the last 18 years. Shame, but I just don't have the enthusiasm to read it anymore since its format changed last September. Some of the British write-ups are barely more than just results.

Sportsnetwork are not helping matters with them serving up mostly rubbish.

On the filp side, Sky have provided excellent value in 2006 and I still really enjoy going to the smaller domestic shows, especially those that are not on TV.

Come on lads, don't let pessimism get the better of you. The 'politrics' is a nightmare, it's a terrible sport for that.

But we have some genuinely world class boxers, some of whom should be involved in big fights soon.

I agree with you that we have rarely had it so good in terms of domestic fighters of world level, although that maybe says more about the relative ease getting title belts these days.

But domestic boxing stinks, so few major fights to get excited about.

the problem is definitely that all the british fighters who are good gravitate toward the mythical world title shot. tragically, hobson won't fight macca again: instead hobson gets macca's downgraded WBU, Macca gets a WBO, Haye guns for a WBC. When really, if they wanted to improve the sport and really raise their profiles, they'd fight each other - maybe lots of times.

what if johnny 'love cheat' nelson retires, we won't get any of those top cruiserweight fights.

also, good domestic fighters don't want to fight these murderers row african imports. can you imagine jackson asiku getting a fight with nicky cook? lenny daws & team have point blank turned down Ajose Olusegun. martin power got his arse whipped by tunyai, will anyone be in a hurry to fight the south african? no way

on the world scene, Scott Harrison had to mess around and cause (directly or indirectly) the cancelling of the real challenges that were there for him, Gairy St Clair & dominican skirt boy (forgotten his name). hatton and calzaghe had to reach an all time low before they had their finest wins.

I'm sure when the new season kicks off - I'm sure it will be better.

Remember a time not so long ago when, although we had seasons, there was still some big summer cards in the UK.... Not the case this year, hense there seems to be more of topic threads.

If I remember rightly, when by the time Reid fought Sugar Boy Malinga. the UK was up to nine world champions (counting the WBO).

It's the pull outs that are the problem. When the fights are going ahead they are generally of a good standard and we've seen some great domestic fights in the last couple of years. Off the top of my head in the last year

Anderson v Mutley
Munyai v Power
Power v Napa
Jennings v Price
Pickering v Hunter
Anderson v Okine
Enzo v Hobson
Meager v Stewart
Johanneson v Corcoran

Sky esp are giving us a regular output of fights from the UK and around the world at the moment.

Problem for the sport is people are tuning in to ITV and getting a fat Danny Williams throwing 1 or 2 punches a round and commenting how crap boxing is. ITV need to either allow more promoters to stage shows or Warren needs more headliners to step in when Calzaghe has a hang nail.

I think the difference this year to previous years (especially last year) is the big summer fight.

Last year we had Hatton vs Tszyu and the aftermatch, shortly after that we had Bennett vs Earl - which was well promoted on the forums by the Maloney boys.

This year we have zilch..... even stateside the next biggie is in September.

this past week was very good for international action - Erdei-Ulrich, Kameda-Landaeta, Koshimoto-Lopez, Harris-Johnston, Jones-Pajamu, Ibragimov-Austin. nothing earth shattering, but busy nonetheless

WBO fly champ Omar Narvaez, of Argentina fights Rexon Flores tonight. Gary Shaw is trying to put a fight together between his man Darchinyan and Narvaez, On Sat, J M Marquez is fighting someone called Turksack, his bro is fighting Mabuza again. In panama, Vince Mosquera is defending his WBA super fly vs Edwin 'don't confuse me with Ponce de Leon' Valero, the same day. The following thurs (10 aug) sees Brian Viloria defend his WBC light fly vs Omar Nino. Sat 19th, welter prospect paul williams faces Sharmbah Mitchell, which may get him a fight with Margarito - this fight is on Sky

Not mostly a puncher at all, he was a hell of a puncher at 122 but he can really box. I think he'd have beaten Harrison.

Barrera vs Juarez II - There is also Witter vs Corely and Woods vs Johnson III bill too look forward to over here.

Yes, the list is okay - but nothing exceptional.
