Paul Dempsey leaves Sky for Setanta
Have seen that Paul Dempsey is leaving Sky....anyone suggest a replacement?

Dempsey's Irish accent
Sky Sports stalwart Paul Dempsey is leaving the satellite broadcaster to join rival Setanta. The boxing and football presenter, who joined Sky in 1989, is returning to Dublin to work for Setanta in Ireland but with the company due to begin broadcasting live Premiership football in the 2007-08 season he could be the first of several signings from Sky.

Dempsey has been fairly ever present for the last few years. Not an easy role to do as it's their job to appear dumb so they can ask questions, Dempsey did this very well.
Replacement??? How about Bunce, Inverdale or that bloke off the money programme who presented De La Hoya v Vargas on the BBC? You see, Dempsey isn't that bad.
Kirsty Gallacher would be my choice

I don't think Dempsey is that bad at all. It's his job to try and hold everything together and give the coverage some focus, and he does it well. As was mentioned, he's a shitload better than others who've tried to do the same job on other channels.
If SKY need a new boxing frontman, how about pinching Matt Smith from ITV? I thought he was pretty good on the few shows he did.

Bit harsh, Nick. I like Dempsey. He seems like a genuine, nice guy. Enthusiastic and knows his stuff, a professional. I'm led to believe he's not really a boxing fan, which makes his demeanour and knowledge more admirable in a way.nickd wrote:GOOD, Dempsey is a cockpiece.
Unlike some other media types I've bumped into, Dempsey was friendly and not at all arrogant when I briefly crossed his path.
I have never taken to him he gets right on my tits.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Bit harsh, Nick. I like Dempsey. He seems like a genuine, nice guy. Enthusiastic and knows his stuff, a professional. I've always thought he was excellent.... replacements - well Dominc Hollier, Richard "Hairy Hands" Keys, Jeff Stelling and the oldish one who now does Sky Sports News have all done it in the past, as have regular boxing correspondance Nicky Piper and Adam Smith.
I'd go for either Hollier or Matt Smith. Richard Keys wasn't too bad either.
Do you think this means more boxing on Setanta?

Do you know if these will be on PPV or on Subcription.Shirow wrote:Well Derek Williams is doing some shows at York Hall & Elephant & Castle which will be broadcast on Setanta so hopefully it's part of a whole raft of shows
Apparently though, Sky are trying to get a deal that buyers of the premium sports channels will get the Premiership football on Setanta for no extra.
What happend to Billy Schwer's presenting career, I remember Sky doing some segments with Billy in the Adam Smith/Ed Robinson role in reports for Ringside. Paul Dempsey announced that he (Schwer) was on the pay roll. They definately seemed to be grooming Schwer as a presenter more than an analyst.

Yep it's quite obvious he's not a boxing fan, but he's always done a professional job and I've never found him annoying, though his questions to the guests are always no brainers.
I don't think much of Johnny Nelson in the studio, but Jim Watt is clearly the best in the business.
The pretty bland Piper would probably be a good fill in for Demspey.
Anything but the truly terrible Gary Norman eho used to do the Sky job. He was AWFUL.
