Bowe and bankruptcy

Post by Old bones Ian »

Sad state of affairs for Bowe, looks as if he might be forced into the ring again for financial reasons.

Akron boxer George Linberger is scheduled to return to the ring against former two-time heavyweight champion Riddick ``Big Daddy'' Bowe in October.

Linberger (29-8, 25 KOs) will be Bowe's first opponent in more than a year. Bowe, 39, boasts a 42-1 record with 33 knockouts.

Linberger hasn't fought since beating Eric ``Butterbean'' Esch in a four-round split decision last November.

The fight will be Oct. 6 in Norfolk, Va. at Scope Arena.

Does not sound like he is broke at all.

Bankruptcy is something nAmericans do to avoid paying ANY AMOUNT - no matter how large or small!

Exactly, heavyweight champions tend to live in a very strange world. They usually get money whilst young and inexperienced, and rely on others to manage their finances. Big entourages cost a lot of money, as to fleets of luxury cars. As you say, they feel the money will always be coming in, then usually one day it comes to and end far sooner than they expected it to. Ali ended up broke not long after retiring, as did Tyson as we all know. Ray Robinson, despite being a HUGE star ended up broke and Joe Louis ended up as a greeter in casinos for 5 bucks a time.

Its definately a shame if its true, I remember reading an article on Bowe in the brilliant Observer Sport Monthly where he claimed he had $20 million left out of £80 million. He was allegegly ripped off by his family.

Here is the link, although I don't think it is the full article as I'm sure there was a Q&A interview in there:

How good was Bowe link:

Funny this one as Graham Houston was forever telling us in BM that Bowe had looked after his money. How did he manage to spend it all when he was locked up for so long?!!

Visiting the crack house again?
