Just watched some highlights of Salvador Sanchez. His fight against Danny Lopez stuck out as did his performance against Gomez. Lopez took some punishment - man must have had a concrete chin!
Sanchez really was special, and the more you see footage of his fights, the more you realise how sad it is that he passed away at such a young age, when in his prime.
Damn, had he stayed alive may have actually improved as a boxer. What do you all think?
Those right-hand leads Salvador use to land on his opponents were a thing of beauty.
If Sanchez had stayed alive, what do you think of proposed Sanchez-Arguello bout?
Salvador Sanchez. Fantastic boxer!

I watched the second Lopez fight again just the other day and Sanchez's movement in that bout was fantastic. Lopez barely found him all fight and Danny usually caught up with most opponents in the end.
Off-hand I can't think of a greater loss to boxing than Sanchez - especially given how interesting the division was over the next few years after his death. A rematch against Nelson, a "super-bout" against Pedroza, a Rocky Lockridge fight would be entertaining as well.
I guess a fight against Arguello would be at 130 and would no doubt be a classic but I see Arguello's power catching Salvador for the first TKO loss of his career in the late rounds.
Vale Salvador.

I've never seen a fighter so calm under pressure with as good stamina as Sanchez. Maybe Carlos Monzon and Jose Napoles, but that's it. Battling Nelson and Henry Armstrong had incredible stamina too, but were not exactly what I'd call relaxed and calm. Check the fight out against Azumah Nelson. That guy was full of energy, a real pressure fighter with tonnes of stamina - Sanchez wore him out; and for that fight, they say Sanchez was a bit weight drained, but he still didn't look tired.
One of my all time favourites... I'm sure Sanchez would have moved up and won another one or two more titles... he was very tight at 126... he said to his cornermen after the 5th round of the Nelson fight that he felt very weak... which makes his performance in that fight nothing short of phenomenal considering it was against another all time great like Nelson... I think Salvadore would have had the speed to beat Arguello... I think the plan was for them to fight at 135... Sanchez planned to go right up to 135 and miss out 130 entirely I think... boxings greatest loss because Sanchez was such a special boxer who still hadnt reached his peak...
