Toney vs Peter
I was looking for a thread on this fight but cudnt find one. I cant see peter getting anywhere near toney's chin with his powerfull but crude swings. A wide toney UD for me. The bookies also have peter as the favourite with toney at evens which might be worth a punt. But i suppose you never with toney these days....he seems to do half his training at burger king :(

Toney's problem for me is that lacking a reach advantage he has to fight at close quarters. Wlad kept Peter at arms length and didn't come close to koing or hurting him significantly, and Toney will have to work pretty hard for the full 12 to keep on top of things.livingstone cole wrote:I think that almost unanimously people believe that Toney has the winning of this fight (albeit closely) if, now that's one hell of an if, he comes in in decent(ish) shape.
Peter is going for a KO, that's as obvious as day and to hold off that little terror for 12 rounds is gonna take some doing, not possible if you look look like marsmellow man.
So it's all in Toney's hands, either a quarterpounder with cheese or a firm grasp on a title shot.

I wont make a pick on this fight until I see Toney's weight on Friday. I have seen conflicting reports, in some it says Toney has knuckled down since the Rahman fight and is in great condition, Toney himself said he was 270 a week or so ago. If Toney is in shape he wins, if he is in the same sort of shape he was against Rahman I can't see him holding Peter off.
I really hope Toney can do it. At 38 his days are numbered but I'd hate to see the back of him. I really enjoy his exploits in the heavyweight division, as he's really got no right to be there (going on traditionally held views of size and condition) yet he's been a relevation at times. You've got to admire his attitude of taking on all-comers; Holyfield, Ruiz, Rahman and now Peter. Come on James !

Saw a picture of him on fightnews, only the neck up, but he didn't look anywhere near as fat as he did for Rahman, face looked quite taught by comparison.nickd wrote:I wont make a pick on this fight until I see Toney's weight on Friday. If Sam can't knock out Toney, and can't outbox him, how does he win?
Out work him maybe? Could be......or land the punch of a lifetime?
Hope not, I don't like seeing a middleweight take heavyweight punches - I wonder if Toney's chin is too good for his own good - but he doesn't take many I suppose....
Toney to win a close one on points.

Could just outwork him and beat him up late. Toney always seems to be able to pace himself well, but Peter seems to throw a lot of shots and this could be James' undoing. I hope Toney comes in in good shape, otherwise we could witness him taking a bit of a shelling late in the fight against a guy who is naturally far stronger and who may just be able to walk through James' shots.

What worries me is that Rahman was bombed out of there after being beaten down by Maskaev, despite Maskaev being on the slide by most people's reckoning. Despite taking a lot of shots, Rahman was able to weather James' shots quite easily. Admittedly, Maskaev is technically better than Peter, but sometimes it isn't about technique. Peter is going to be much the bigger stronger man in there, and unlike Rahman, I don't think he is going to be holding back in there. The guys Toney has beat at heavy, were reluctant dragons, Guinn, Ruiz and the draw with Rahman, were because they were scared to let their hands go.
Peter, for all his flaws will keep on coming until the end looking for the hail mary punch, and even if he doesn't find it, that might be enough to earn him the win.

Toney 233 and Peter 257!
Way they won't show Peter's gut but show Toney's
