Just watched it and this fight belongs up there with the best of them. You’d be hard pressed to see a fight with more back and forth action than this.
The champion, Vincente Mosquera, shows courage above and beyond the call of duty, no question, he shows super human qualities in there. In front of a huge cheering home crowd he just refuses to lose, or go down, from punches that would leave most others unconscious on the canvas. All night he never changes his expression.
As Valero tees off on him, time and again, only to see Mosquera come back with terrific punches himself, after being seemingly on the verge of losing a few seconds before, Edwin must have wondered just what the hell he had in front of him.
I think many other big punchers would have chucked it in after seeing their best punches fail to stop this punching machine in front of them, round after round. I’d say for the first 8 rounds both fighters are hurt in every round, sometimes 2 or 3 times
( think it’s round 4 or 5 that might be round of the year, or round 1 might be even better ) before Valero finally gets on top in the 9th, hurting a tiring champion repeatedly – though M still fires back of course. His corner finally prompt the ref to jump in when Valero lands repeatedly to have his brave opponent stumbling back on failing legs.
I think it’s the 6th where Valero almost takes his opponent’s head off with clean punch after clean punch, must’ve been 20 or so clean blows, but M is still standing and moving forward…V nods his head at M ( in amazement I think )
Now I know why he’s called El Loco
I was going to do a round by round, but gave up and just watched instead – here’s the first –
RD 1 – Valero is picking his shots carefully, as if he’s sensibly hoping for a nice calm start, but Mosquera has other ideas, and he’s looking to give this big hitter a taste of his own medicine: he nails Valero with a perfect right hand on the chin. Stunned Valero backs off, and as M starts to close in on him to land more hard shots, Valero suddenly hits back and drops M to the canvas with hard left and rights.
The champ jumps up and looks calm and ready for revenge during the 8 count….as Valero looks to tee off on his hurt opponent, M strikes back with a huge right hand punch that sends a visible judder through Valero and almost puts him over.
As M moves in throwing hard punches, Valero hits back and floors him again with hard lefts and rights. Round ends with Valero trying for a quick finish, but M ducks and weaves, getting ready for a long night ahead.
The champ gets his revenge in the third, badly hurting Valero and dropping him with big left and right hands, then nails him as he’s propped on the ropes just before the ref jumps in. The crowd go wild and throw cups and water into the ring, so give Valero valuable seconds to recover as the ref looks to clear the ring of debris. Big mistake.
Valero comes back and hurts the champion badly, almost dropping him before the round is over.
Edwin Valero is the real McCoy, and deserves huge credit, as does Vincente Mosquera – two real warriors.
Sky or CH 5 better show this fight, it’s the least they can do.

A very impressive display from both fighters but especially Valero. He appears to be quite raw and wild, but when he puts those heavy combinations together he looks quite formidable. At 24 and with only 20 short fights behind him, this guy can only get better.
