Biggest Bust
Has to be Roy Jones, Jr. vs. James Toney. Never did I pay $50 so willingly, and never was I deceived so badly!

What's up with the Gonzalez-Carbajal fights? I haven't watched them yet, but I was under the impression that was a decent trilogy. I try to steer clear of discussion because I don't really want to know too much before I watch them.wouter wrote:Leonard v Duran 3, Tyson v Spinks, Marciano v Walcott 2, Ali v Liston 2, Gonzalez v Carbajal 2 and 3 to name a few.......
What don't I know that is bad about those 2 fights????

I fvcking love Gonzalez-Carbajal II & III, & if you don't mind some spoilers I am prepared to wax lyrical at great length to defend their honour from such aspersions & blandishments.
Both really dramatic, both really good boxing matches.

Re: biggest bust (fight)
Thanks but I don't want any spoilers. I'm sure I will post when I get round to watching them, and we can wax lyrical together.Datsue wrote:witherspoon wrote:What's up with the Gonzalez-Carbajal fights? Lewis was a guarantee
Everyone knew that Tyson wasn't the man he used to be and that Lennox would play it safe defensively and outbox him to a stoppage.Justin wrote:Lewis-Tyson

Jones/Hopkins was an undercard fight to a Heavyweight mismatch. Hard to classify a non-headliner as a 'bust'.

Re: biggest bust (fight)
I dont understand what the original post implies...
Are we talking fights that just didn't live up to the hype? Mismatches? Blowouts? Too little too late?
Fights that didn't live up to the hype.... Ehhhh probably say Leonard/Duran III
Mismatches.... Ehhhh there's too many to list, cus its more common than ever
Blowouts.... (I'm talking Terry Conklin/ Reaper Roper type sh!t here) Norton/Bobick, Quarry/Boddell, Burns/Squires, etc
Too little too late..... Fenech/Nelson III

The Chiquita-Carbajal sequels were very good bouts.Datsue wrote:witherspoon wrote:What's up with the Gonzalez-Carbajal fights? I think they tend to get downgraded because they weren't the dramatic, toe-to-toe, back-and-forth slugfest that the original was.
The first fight left you feeling limp. Bouts 2 and 3 merely earned your applause.

Mayorga-Vargas?
As an aside on the thread title, Vargas went on to develop quite a.......nah, that's too awful, even for me.
