Witter vs Hopkins in November

Junior could make his 1st defence in America on the golden boy card, on November 25th.

If Junior has stayed in shape could be a good move.

I see Boxrec have it scheduled. How would Witter cope with Hopkins, i've never seen Hopkins fight, would it be a hard fight for Witter?

If the fight does come off it nice to see Witter keeping active, cant blame him really might as well rake the money in while he's the champ.

Depends what kind of deal they have. Maybe they are hoping to make money from Witter further down the line.

Make money from Witter? Can't see that happening, I think they see this as a way of getting Hopkins a belt. Never seen Hopkins fight what's his style?

Hopkins is a neat enough boxer, nice skills, uses the jab alot. He's really a come foward boxer, which is not what Witter likes most, think this one could turn into a bit of a dull fight.

Witter will need to impress to win, if he gets lulled into posing and not throwing then Hopkins might stand a chance, but i think its a points win for Witter.

Has a good defence, decent skills, not the biggest puncher, but hits hard enough.

Witter is a big step up for him, Could be a boring fight.

I wanted witter 1st defence to be against Lazcano another Golden boy fighter. Lazcano's style would suit witter, a lot better than Hopkins.

Are you referring to the supposed deal between Hennessy and Golden Boy Promotions? I've never been quite sure exactly what deal that was precisely.

Maybe it could help his draw too as he's not a huge draw sadly.

Maybe Fighting there will help get a a fight with Hatton too.

I thought Demetrius was a welterweight?

I wondered why Witter never went back to America. Must've been a European title thing. GB probably wanted him for world title elims/title fights - but he did have big problems finding opponents. Mayweather was undecided about the WBC 140 title for a while and held things up a bit after beating Gatti. Witter had Branco pull out of a fight & had to make do with Lynes.

I've never understood what GBP was doing with Witter and also Froch, never seemed to promote them in anyway, but i'm guessing they have them tied to a promotional deal if either wishes to box in America.

Nope, just think it's pretty funny that's it's the promoters own nephew he's fighting.

Sounds like it might be a bit of a bore fest though, which is exactly what Witter DOESN'T need.

I saw Demetrius Hopkins on Friday Night Fights about 18 months ago. Can't remember who he fought as I hadn't heard of Demetrius either. But Bernard was at ringside and Atlas and Tessitore brought him in on the commentary.

From what I saw of him he was less than impressive. A tall skinny guy with long arms with average handspeed who fights from centre ring behind a decent jab. He was getting tied up a lot and the fight was untidy in parts. From what I can remember, from this one fight, he has little to suggest other than that he is very average.

I can see this being another Witter snorefest.

From what I heard, Hopkins has improved a lot in his last couple of fights. I heard his KO in his most recent fight was a candidate for knockout of the year.

Excellent move by the Witter camp IMO..... He's got to make it exciting.

I could only think a few better people to fight to get the public's attention stateside.... all of them are FAR more dangerous than Hopkins.

Hopkins is alright, I'm not convinced Witter bashes him up..... but he has a ever increasing reputation and its in America. When you here the US commentators discuss world class Welters/Light Welters - Hopkins is always mentioned these days.

Good move, but Witter must deliver an exciting performance, not necessarily a safety first.

Good move in my book Hopkins is a name even if it is largely because of his uncle, he is also beatable. Sensible move and if he wins however it is he has a respectible scalp and thus more marketability to the american public. Common Juniour although I have a horrble feeling he could be cheeted.

When I had a chat with Junior a while back he did mention this name so maybe he's fancied the match up for some time.
