FABRICE TIOZZO retires

Post by Autobarn »

He wanted a fight with Mormeck, but feels that a lack of progress/likelihood of it happening has led him to retire. Obviously, the fact that he can't make 175 had something to do with it.

The Garay fight is off then I take it. Tiozzo has been saying his heart isn't in boxing anymore for a while now - just in it for the money. Why he couldn't have just moved up and contested one of the 16 WBA cruiser titles going about now I don't know.

Garay for the vacant title perhaps? The WBA hadn't updated it's rankings since July last time I looked though, so don't know who they have up their. McBride or something probably.

I remember talking with Raff off here once about Mormeck's promotors wanted to make this fight but Mormeck didn't want the fight and wanted bigger fights.

Branco's the interim champ so he'll be the full champ now.

Thought Fabrice was glad to fight again after his last bout though.

Of course, there's obviously an interim champ. Silly me, what what I thinking

Guys like Chad Dawson will be licking their chops at Branco holding that belt. If the Italian is as confident as he says he is (he says he wants unification!) I don't see him lasting at all.

Still he's got my respect, 40 years old and has the stamina and physique of a 25 year old. :o

Garay-Branco would be a good scrap, but (20-6) Manny Siaca is supposedly still rated at #1.

I like this quote from Tiozzo when he was asked if he would comeback to face Mormeck
"I am not an idiot. To make Tiozzo-Mormeck, it would take a million euros...but only for Don King..." . Class.

Forget Woods, lets get the main man Peter Oboh the chance at Branco.

I have to say though.... I saw Branco vs Siaca the other day, Branco looks practically as fresh now as it did in 1999.

Branco is a tricky customer and seems to defy age.

I was asumming he fights and gets past Oakey in December. He would start as an big underdog vs Branco and I would favour the Italian - but in a round about way he sort of deserves a big shot, cause of the amount of time's he's been shafted around in these last 2 years domestically.
