boxing websites

Can anyone start a boxing website? as my mate wants to open one but he has no contacts to boxers etc.

and i just wondered if he'd be allowed to interview boxers for the site.

yes, just needs to make his own contacts etc.. e-mail promters, fighters, managers

very time consuming though, easier to let others do the hard work.

I've never boxed but you are free to interview me emma, i am always forthcoming with controversial opinions (p.s. a feature on Nigel Rafferty would be well received in Wolverhampton)

Contact promoters etc... and ask for press credentials. He'll need to set a site up and do some reports, stories etc... so the promoter in question will be able to see he isnt giving away credentials for nothing. Cover small hall shows first, sports network shows from tv and write articles on various boxing news stories etc... He'll need a decent team of writers to set something good up. Either that or dedicate all of his time to it.

There are lots of different styles of writing, just look through BN and note the writers different styles.
Some write it almost punch for punch, where others make it into almost a story.

I personally think most boxing websites are little more than a blog, the British sites are strictly small hall and of no interest outside of that, one or two of the USA sites do a good job and maybe your friend should contact them about posting his piece, it`ll help him develop a style that works or highlight a style that doesn`t

He may well be better starting off writing for other sites (well a site). That way he can make contacts before setting up his own.

hes from london and hes an amateur boxer.we've got a few boxers to interview but no one big.he wanted me to put my interviews i did for bbn on his site but i said no.

I'm not really sure what your point is here. The one I write for covers as many aspects of British boxing as we can, small hall or big arena.

My mate only started his site a couple of years ago (http://www.fightfan.com) and he's interviewed all the top fighters and trainers out there, including Hatton, Mayweather, Cotto, Corrales, Castillo, Casamayor, Toney, Pacquiao, Manny Steward, Freddy Roach, etc.

He also gets backstage passes and tickets to all major fights. Infact he's got RINGSIDE tickets and full access to the Mayweather v Baldomir fight

Check out his recent email:

"Joe and I will be heading down to Vegas to cover the Mayweather Baldomir card at ringside. They seemed to look at the coverage we did live at the Roy Jones fight and deemed us worthy of all access.

We'll be down for the whole week and will be visiting Paul Williams training camp for a video interview and training session.

What's even better is that we're heading to LA one night over night where we've made arrangements to meet with James Toney.

Then the next morning we'll be visiting Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym where we'll have full access to a day of training in Manny Pacquiao's camp. We can video tape him hitting the pads (not sparring) and will conduct an interview with him after he's done training.

All of that said, we should also be able to stock pile months worth of updates with all the fighters and personalities that will be in Vegas on fight weekend.

We'll be running live updates the whole week from all of the said locations."

I presume he's american or very very rich as the expenses on that trip must be running into thousands.
