Michael Hunter Feature - Boxing Monthly

Post by TheGoods »

Good piece by Mick Gill. Well worth a read. Some funny quotes.

On his first bout: "When I had my first fight at 12, I really shit myself."

On his childhood: "I had a fight every single day. Always against lads bigger than me and I never, ever backed down. If I lost, my mam booted me back out to fight 'em again. And if I still couldn't beat 'em, she'd send me out with a stick. Very tough woman, my mam."

On his inability to get out of the North East divs as a kid: "Only when I started to get a few hairs on my cock around 15 and began to hit harder did things start to happen for me."

On tangling with Molitor: "After rolling on the pavement with almost every bouncer in Hartlepool in my late teens, I'm hardly frightened of any 122lbs man in the world, I can assure you."

No doubt Harlepool is a tough place, but considering the holders of the WBC and WBA titles in the 122lb division grew up in Mexico City and Colón in Panama respectively, I don't think Hunter's war stories will scare them too much.

It might be the arse end of nowhere but when irrigated it is not quite as shitty and leaves a rather pleasant feel. :TU:

Well ladies ae tougher these days! :o

Hunter even said his mum would send him out to fight again if he lost and with a stick as an example.

The way Fannan would scour the streets for him to get to the gym when he was out drinking in the past though.

Why do certain people always think their hometown is so much tougher than other peoples hometown?

My school's tougher than your school.

My dad's bigger than your dad. Blah, blah, blah.

Growing up on the tough streets of Winchester taught me a lot, you don't get out of there without being able to have a good ruck with guys 20 times as big as you. No way is anyone gonna scare me

well considering he has never encountered any north east knuckle men (unless you include the time he was body popping on churchills floor) i think he will find this a difficult question to answer.

Sure, 10 pound all you can drink, me and micky used to go there was full of younguns but a few hard bastards used to get in there, which bouncer are you? I knew them all barrin a few, couple of them were Cage fighters but the rest where fannys, they used to let our lot in for nowt, we were the bouncers in there not the bouncers.

Also Billy i remember you havin a scrap in the Colloseum or the Afterdark with one of my pals Big Andy Wray i think who used to work the doors round Hartlepool. Also i know what your sayin bout micky but he was only a kid maybe 18-20.

Also to the person who said best bareknuckle up here probably Richy Horsley (he has a book out), Dave Garside or Bri Cockrill (Who also has a book out, the Taxman). All these fellas are from Hartlepool too
