Schultz loses comeback fight.

Not really a surprising result, but 38 year old Axel Schultz lost to Brian Minto (27-1 16 KO's) via a 6th round TKO.

It did seem to be an ambitious comeback opponent for a fighter 7 years out of the ring.

Schultz apparently started of well, but Minto took over from the 3rd and battered him for the next 3 rounds.

Schultz has criticised his own performance but would say if he would retire.

Its a bit sad, always have a bit of a soft spot for Schultz - shafted twice in title fights, gave a good account (but a losing one IMO) vs Moorer and never got the pay day vs Tyson he appeared to be assured of at one stage.

I'd call his choice of comeback opponent suicidal rather than ambitious. Where the hell is Matt Hicks when you need him?

The fight had 11mill viewers on RTL, surpassing the figures of Klitschko and Halmich fights. In his "prime" Schulz had 18 mill viewers.

Anyone who saw Schulz and his last couple of fights, especially his Wlad K bludgeoning already knew he was shot to shit 7 years ago. I predicted Minto would win but didnt think he would beat him down that bad.

But at least Schulz got a lot of money for his public humiliation.

Never really saw the controversy, i thought Foreman and Botha just edged him. And Akinwande beat him twice fairly, Moorer also beat him.

I would like to see minto take on a top 10 now. even though schulz was coming out of a long retirement minto looked very impressive infront of a hostile crowd and won in style. the pre-fight message from george foreman shown to the crowd on big screen was a total embarresment!

Just seen it on youtube where all 6 rounds are shown in good
quality.

Minto was a toughie for Schulzs first fight back and Axel
was good for 3 rounds but a good shot floored the German in
the 4th and he was getting busted up when he went down again
in the 6th.

I think Schultz could have got an easier opponent for his first
comeback fight. Still it is probably just as well Schultz has got out
of this comeback without getting badly hurt.

Akinwande did yes.... Botha (a bit open to debate) I do disagree. Moorer close, but I scored it for Double M.

Foreman? No way, Schulz won by a mile.

No way either guy won by a mile IMO.

Schulz didn't do much for the first half of the fight, then tried turn it up in the second half. I think it really pissed Foreman off that after the Morrison fight everybody boxed him smart & stayed away. By that stage in his life he needed a guy to come right at him.

Like Foreman said in the post fight interview, "this is the heavyweight championship of the world, you cant steal it from me by running".

I always thought Foreman edged it, and i dont think an unknown can come out of Germany & try run away and take the title from a US icon in his back yard, we all know how the game works!

Well Holyfield (successful) and Alex Stewart (non successful) did figure it out before Big George, but I think Morrison showed that a successful running tactic could be employed by a natural slugger. Good performance by Morrison that

Really goes to show how bad Shannon Briggs was.... Foreman was exposed so many times but Shannon did genuinally lose.
