Have many of you seen his fights?
During his prime he was a wrecking ball yet outside of Australia he wasn't very well known. By the time his reputation left Australian shores his best days were probably behind him and the second Nelson fight is how most remember him by, which is a real pity
For those that have seen his fights - how do rate him as a fighter?

If he would have broken into boxing as a featherweight their would have been a better chance he would have gotten more exposure here in The States. By the time he started to move up in weight boxing on American tv was on the wane and alot of people were turned off from pay per view due to such anticks as the Tyson Ear biting incident. Nobody wanted to take a chance and pay 50 bucks in the event that you had that kind of foolishness in the main event. The media stopped talking about boxing pretty much altogether except for some occasional negitive commentary. So guys like Jeff Fenech ended up off of the radar screen. Sort of a case of being in the right place at the wrong time.
During this fight I thought he was going to lose about round 8 after McCrory staggered him. He came through with fitness and pure guts in the end. Johnny Lewis almost cancelled the fight due to seeing Fenech look like a ghost trying to make weightBen Keilty wrote:I think his fight with Steve McCrory was really good, McCrory was a gold medalist in 84 and looked good until that fight and was battered into submission in 14 rounds, also Carlos Zarate was a good fight.
As for Steve McCrory, I'd still be interested in finding out what he died of. Poor bugger was only 36
