Randall"Tex"Cobb vrs Earnie Shavers(1980)

Anyone catch that bout on ESPN Classic about 3 a.m in the morning the other day?
man,that was a good bout.
Last three rounds were gut check time for both fighters especially Shavers.

Not a big fan of that fight. Shavers looked SO SHOT . . .incredible loss of reflexes and speed from 3-4 years before. Cobb won by just being busier.

Vs Earnie in his prime would've been a different story.

I watched it, and realized if either Ernie or Tex was in the HW division today, they would be the champ. Much better than anything fighting in that division today. That is how sad the HW division is.

A good fight and I was suprised how Cobb took those brutal blows from Shavers. It seems Shavers got tired not from missing, but from hitting Cobb so often with those wild righthands, also according to Shavers biography Cooney was scheudled to fight him but Cooney pulled out from an injury and Cobb took his place.

Cobb vrs Shavers

I seem to rember that this fight was voted 'fight of the Year' of 1980 by the RING magazine,or at least a runner up.
I also seem to rember an interview of Earnie Shavers, were he said his jaw was broken by Cobb in the fifth round(if I rember correctly).
However in his autobiography he says it was the 8 th round.
To me it looked like it was in the seventh round,Cobb threw an right uppercut, that looked to have some leverage from his 232 pounds on it.
