Jeff Tite, middleweight versus Randolph Turpin?

I have not been around boxing at all, but Jeff Tite was a local hero when I was a little kid. I would like to sort out the truth of whether (as locals in my village used to claim) he ever fought Randolph Turpin?

The local tale was that Jeff went up against someone "a bit above his league" and that he took some damaging punches and was never quite as fit afterwards. I found out that he only died this year, a hearty 80, pub landlord etc in his home village. I am asking this with all due respect.

The "a bit above his league" fight might have been Charles Humez...?
