Odd fights you find on boxrec

Post by Old bones Ian »

Just having a look through ex WBC light Welter champions, right in the middle of Julio Ceasar Chavez's reign there is a fight for the vacant WBC title between Guillermo Mosquera and Eduardo Roberto Benevent.
It was won by Mosquera , but he never defended it. 6 months after winning the WBC world title, Mosquera was fighting for the WBC international title...

Anyone know why this WBC word title fight came about? and why Mosquera never defended his world title?

fought three fights on the Robinson-Turpin I undercard winning all three by first round knockout! Some kind of novice tournment still, pretty good night's work!

I think his fight against Benevent was for the WBC International belt, not the full title.... in fact I'd lay a decent bet that this is the case!

It's likely an error in BOXREC - like Archie Moore being listed (until recently) as winning the European Light Heavvyweight title through beating Rinaldi, a mis-interpretation of the fact that the fight with Rinaldi was recognised by the EBU as being for the world title.

I looked at the list of Light Welter champs just now and it doesn't seem to be there.... maybe it's been cleaned up.
