Peter Manfredo's new trainer.....

Post by stujones »

..... Been announced on Welsh Radio that the legendary Sugar Ray Leonard will be in Manfredo's corner ahead of the fight with Calzaghe.

Leonard didn't sound to confident saying "8 weeks is not a lot of time for me to change him" and that "all I can do is try and make him be on his A game for Joe".

However, still an interesting move and I'm sure will gather alot more attention closer to fight time. If I remember rightly, Sugar Ray used to help out a young Johnny Tapia with his traning and obviously didn't do a bad job there. However, Leonard has his own commitments (i.e. this UK Contender thingy) so I don't know if he is really going to be training Manfredo or just in the corner come fight time.

I'm pretty sure whoever is in Peter Manfredo's corner will not be able to do much to stop him taking a beating. This is another Tocker Pudwill job IMO Calzaghe in 3.

Here the interview with Leonard here.

PS I agree with you Steve, but I do think Manfredo is better than Pudwill and it might be fun untill either Calzaghe KO's him, or decides to box.

Edit: Actually hearing the interview in full - Ray doesn't give Manfredo a hope - saying that America would love Calzaghe and that he should crack America after the fight.

If I was Manfredo and I heard this, I would be phoning up Manny Steward (or anyone) pronto.

Its a bullshit fight and its even more aparent that sicknote, has been used for the contender series publicity, or he knew all about it all along. Either way its taking the piss moreso than anyone originally thought

Although Calzaghe will win clearly I think its a distance fight.

This is a load of old Fanny, Leonard is just using this fight to hype the contender series, that's all.
