Imagine what a crowd they could have gotten @ the Olympic Auditorium for this one. I can just hear Jimmy Lennon Sr. announcing "Kiiiiiiiiiiiing Carloooooooooooooooos Palomeeeee-heeee-noooo" and "Joseeeeee Pipinooooooooooo Cueeeee-vasssssssssssss"!!! He was the best.
My guess is Palomino gets rocked early but comes back to stop Cuevas late.

Re: Carlos Palomino vs. Pipino Cuevas
I don't think Carlos had enough pop to stop Cuevas. Two guys with great chins, Cuevas with alltime power and palomino was more skilled. Hard to imagine it being anything other than a war and I don't think you could stand in front of Pipino for 15 rounds and trade. I would go with Cuevas by late TKO due to palomino's face or ribs(or both) breaking.

My guess is that Pipino grinds the puny Palomino into dust
Carlos winds up like all the rest, multiple lacerations, severely bruised, a few broken bones

Carlos Palomino "puny"? No. He was a tough dude, great chin, very fit, solid two-handed puncher who mixed his shots well to the head and body. Good technique, near great but just not quick or athletic enough to be called a "great."Elton John wrote:My guess is that Pipino grinds the puny Palomino into dust

Cuevas -- quick, thunderbolt puncher, lots of heart -- but clumsy, no defense, average chin, not always the best endurance.
Palomino would give him hell, stepping inside those wild, wide-arcing swings. Pipino would always have a puncher's chance against anybody, but I think Palomino busts him up and breaks him down over the course of the fight.

If anyone is tough enought to trade with Cuevas its Palomino. I think Palomino takes it in the late rounds

Exciting battle, but Cuevas takes it.
Cuevas' name being mentioned gives me another matching idea.

I don't know about Cuevas stoping Palomino. I mean Palomino was never stopped if I'm not mistaking, and didn't Duran hit him with everything he had and couldn't stop him. And don't tell me that Duran did not have the power to stop him. I know that Cuevas hits very hard, but Palomino by far was a better technician. If anything I think Palomino’s better boxing skills would make him the favorite in this one. I think Palomino survives and win a SD.

Carlos had a fantastic chin, so did Cuevas for that matter. Palomino took a frightful beating from Duran, it was only ten rounds. You're probably right that a decision makes more sense. Either way, I think Cuevas wins a war.

Although absorbing some big shots, Carlos Palomino would take Pipino Cuevas apart and stop him.

A classic battle of the big left hands. Carlos had that left hook but Cuevas could also use it in uppercut form and his stamina was underrated at his peak - he could swing away for 15 rounds.
I lean towards Pipino.
