Whats so talented about John Murray

Post by Max Molyneux »

Watched couple of Murray fights when he's fought on Hennessy fights and whats so special about him? He looks a bit Kevin Mitchell like, but Mitchell's at least won the commonwealth title.

He's been pro longer than Khan and looks bad against guys Khan would KO In the first round.

Nearly 4 years and 20 wins and no shot at a domestic title yet either, whats going on?

I do agree to a certain extent. He's okay, but still convinced Khan AND Mitchell are the better prospects.

Murray had that one tough fight against a very credible ambitious fighter for the WBC youth title - but lets not forget, if that title wasn't on the Line Murray would have lost.

He is one of these fighters who does everything okay, but nothing special. He has an okay workrate, okay defence, okay punch power - to go beyond domestic class you need to be a bit better than okay at something... I cannot see it in John, as much as I want to.

He might go further than Khan or Mitchell because both of those have flaws that I hope will be ironed out that John doesn't have. If he does better than them, it will mean none have got to European level IMO as opposed to John being world class. I do think there is more to work with with Khan and Mitchell than Murray, both the SN lads have Hand Speed that could be transfered to world class - both have more snap in the punches. Mitchell is also proved himself a capable 12 round fighter recently. Yes, they have defensive problems which could mean them doing less well than Murray... but as I said that will mean all 3 fall short.

He just seems to take a few too many shots for my liking but he has ability, maybe he can get a British or Commonwealth but anything further at this stage seems a bit ambitious perhaps.

I don't see too much that I don't like.

Mitchells next fight is against a kid whom Murray beat in his 10th contest in 4rds.
Murray did a better job on Daniel thorpe then Mitchell stopping him in 2 .
As far as domestic shot it has well been known that Murray could not make the Super Feather limit and is now campaigning at Lightweight.

Amir Khan Was a world class Amateur John Murray had only 20 or so Amateur bouts.

As far as Murray not being funny at the Savoy that is a cheap shot at a kid who has done nothing wrong and gone about his business in the ring.

Yes, I'm not sure what his being funny (or not, as the case may be) has to do with his boxing ability. But like others, I think British title level is about the best he'll do. I'd be delighted to be proven wrong, but he just takes too many shots. Thaxton would have a field day with him right now, which in itself is no disgrace, but if you're going to progress to world, or even European honours, you need a bit more than Murray has. Interesting that people mention Mitchell though. Now there's a guy who's going nowhere, and being damn slow about it. Most babied prospect I can think of.

Thorpe sounds like one of those journeymen that just give you rounds while surviving also results are unpredictable In boxing. Mitchell's fight Is the 10th March so there was probably no one else they could find for Mitchell who would take the fight on short notice.

I didn't mention weight, anyway Murray was saying he could make Super Feather, not me. I compared him to Mitchell because he looks easy to hit against journeymen, excpet Mitchell has more dig In his punches and he stepped up when he won the Commonwealth title. He could step up at Lighhtweight If he has trouble at 9st 4.

Fair enough Khan's got more amateur experience but Murray's been a pro longer hasn't even tried a step up. Laszlo Komjathi was a former Euro title challenger.

What cheap shot? What Savoy, theres no mention of a Savoy In my post?

I just read about how Murray looks special and gets hype, yet Mitchell gets called overrated while he's also hype.
