Cotto to beat Zab and be the 1st to beat Floyd.

Post by boxbet »

I believe Cotto will beat Zab more convincingly than Floyd and if Floyd ever agrees to fight Cotto then Cotto will be the 1st to beat him. I have a feeling Floyd wont fight Cotto but the people pressure may force him too.

Cotto I suspect will break Judah down for a few rounds then stop him. If Mayweather is serious about retiring after Oscar then it'll be a shame, I could see Cotto beating Floyd too.

I tihnk Mayweather will beat De La Hoya come May 5th. If Floyd does indeed retire, it'll be a missed opportunity in the case of Mayweather-Cotto. IMO, Cotto is perhaps the only fighter out there who could possibly beat Mayweather.

Cotto is young (26) & may not have even entered his peak yet. I feel he's still improving as a fighter, getting better with each fight. Maybe his defense needs to improve a bit before facing Mayweather.

Cotto-Mayweather in 2008 would be a mega-event. Great fight if you ask me.

I think Cotto will break down and stop Judah in about 8 rounds. Judah is a sort of world class gatekeeper i suppose, it's hard to define him. He is a quality name on anybodies record but lacks that certain something to be a dominant force himself.

I think as well Mayweather would stopped him if he hadn't seen the iceberg and whacked him in the balls, causing that frenzy.

Don't be too quick to write off Zab. He hits a lot harder than Corley or Torres (who both shook Cotto), or anybody else Cotto has been in with for that matter. Judah would be dangerous for anybody. Cotto has only fought once at Welter so I think it's too early to to say his apparent chin weakness came from being too drained to make 140. I would love to go to this fight, would have to be massive in New York.

Judah may pull off an 'upset' here, you never know with Zab because he truly has the ability to be P4P No1 but he loses focus far too often. Anyway Cottos the 1 moving up in class Judahs faster, better boxer, hard hitting and just better than anyone Cottos ever faced. Cotto may be a big hitter but he leaves himself open and if Judah scores some big counters he could do what Corley/Torres failed to do and KO Cotto.

I think Judah was pretty focused for the main part vs Floyd and lost fairly and never looked like winning (although gave Floyd arguably his sternest test). So I'm not sure he has the ability to be P4P Number 1, but has the ability to be in the top 5 mix I agree.

Cotto wouldn't beat Floyd. No-one at 140-147 can beat Floyd.

I agree. Even though I dont think it would be easy for Miguel, I just dont see Mayweather having the courage to get in with someone who could hurt him as much as the Puerto Rican could. With Oscar it will be a case of if the left hook lands. With Cotto it will be every punch that lands will hurt, because that is the way he throws them.

Thought Judah had Mayweathers number early but he didn't have the stamina to back it up.

Was it stamina, or is Judah just an on-top fighter? I do feel he struggles if he doesn't get a guy out of there earlyish. Mayweather was good enough to last out those early rounds (where Judah was very good), and I thought Zab was getting a little frustrated that maybe his best wasn't going to be enough to blow Floyd away. Could well be stamina, but I think there's a psychological issue with Judah.

As for Cotto-Judah (providing of course that Cotto gets past Urkal, which he surely will), I expect Cotto to win in style. Yes, the Quintana fight is not enough evidence to suggest that all Cotto's chin problems have been solved by a move up to 147, and yes, Judah is a talented fighter, who hits harder than Corely, who did briefly wobble Cotto. But I think Judah's chin is far more of an issue in this fight. And going back to my previous point, Judah can unravel somewhat if it's not all going his way. Cotto simply bites down on the gumshield and finds a way to win. I think he survives a few rocky moments, perhaps even touches the canvas, but recovers to blast Zab out of there inside 8 rounds.

that low blow by dirty zab was as calculated a bailout as when judah's mentor mike tyson bit off holyfield's ear!! it was the thug's way out---the ideal way to cash in your chips and still maintain your rep of "manliness" with your fellow thug homeboys!!

agreed!! mercurial zab definitely has a puncher's chance...based on the way corley had cotto on queer street for half of the following round!!

the kind of power cotto is most vulnerable to is speed-generated power (what little power corley and PBF have is of this type...zab has it in more abundance and could surprise cotto with it, altho i suspect miguel's handlers will have him watching for it so he doesnt get caught like he did by corley!!

not so sure it's a matter of stamina...IMO it is more a matter of mental weakness!! in opening round(s) against both tszyu and floyd, zab looked VERY STRONG then it's like he suddenly remembered where he was and essentially imploded---i consider it akin to what we saw happen to wlad klitschko vs brewster (tho not as exreme since wlad melted down VISIBLY!!)

you've absolutely nailed it, homey! :TU:

that's what PBF was talking about before the judah fight when he referred to zab as a "FRONT-RUNNER"!! remember how good looked in 1st round against kostya---peppering him well, then stunning him badly with an uppercut that started near floor-level---but when kostya shook off zab's best shot, judah panicked and by the 2nd round he was back-pedalling frantically, moving straight back with hands down!! altho zab's meltdown against floyd was much more subtle, it was essentially the same psychological weakness that caused zab to implode in both fights!! (not unlike wlad klitschko melting down against lamon brewster!!)

if cotto and his handlers are doing their homework, they will exploit this weakness and let zab have his way for a few rounds, having miguel use his underrated footwork to avoid judah's power, then letting him implode!!

Yeah good post states, people are focusing on Cotto's problems but so far he has always found a way to win. I can't see him ever basically give up like Judah did against Baldomir. If Judah can't bully Cotto from the start then I give him no chance.

The first points a good 1 but saying Cottos a different sort of fighter who finds a way to win when hes only fought B Class undersized opponents in the past is misleading.

And to the poster who said Judah has a punchers chance, I also think Judah has the ability to outbox and school Cotto if hes on his game. Malignaggi outboxed Cotto but didnt have the power to keep Cotto off, well Judah has the power. Also bare in mind how Cottos opponents would have done in with Judah.

Judah doesnt always implode against Spinks (I had him winning the first) he performed very well. Hes also dominated B Class opponents impressively

I pick Cotto to win big. He'll be wary of the speed/southpaw, make an adjustment, and apply calculated aggression. He'll get caught a few times, but IMO he'll have his chin tucked safely down & gloves up. He'll tear up Judah's body and pulverise his face.

I really wanted to see Cotto-Margarito.

Cotto in my mind is over rated. If Mallinaggi had power, he would of taken him out, he drove it close as it was.

He's a great fighter but not the fighter everyone makes him out to be. He's prone to lazy spells when fighting a fighter who doesn't rush forward and has a chin that is possibly suspect.

cotto is at least 18 months to 2 years from being competitive with PBF!! that is assuming floyd loses a tad of his trademark speed and reflexes during that time!! :TU:
