Help with some boxing trivia

Post by SamJ »

Can anyone help with this...

First of all I want to know if a story is true, and then, and this is especially important, the exact date when it happened. I'm told the story was reported in Ring magazine some time around May 1992 (although the incident seems to have happened in January)...

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps!

Sam

Boxer Daniel Caruso decided to prepare well for the Golden Gloves fight in New York City, taking the exampe of former champion Marvin Hagler, known for punching himself in the face. Just before the fight was due to begin, Caruso had to bow out, suffering from a broken nose."

The Ring magazine reported that boxer Daniel Caruso,
moments before the bell to begin his New York City
Golden Gloves fight in January, tried to psyche himself
up by using the method employed by former champion
Marvin Hagler: pounding his gloves into his face.
Caruso broke his own nose, forcing cancellation of the
fight. [The Ring, May 1992]
