congratulation to seconds out

Post by rhino222 »

i thought the coverage last night of the klitschko bill was first class, very clear and uninterrupted, it really is the future of boxing and for £5 it was a bargain, i would be interested to know the number of worldwide subscribers to the fight as it was/is not available on tv anywhere.

ant evens, can you help us with the figures?

Didn't catch it but sounds good... anyone put the footage up on Youtube?

Will definitely watch the next stream.

BUT it doesn't excuse the write up of the fight having a photo of Wlad smashing Barrett, not Austin, nor the schoolboy spelling error....

Presentation and coverage is one thing. That can be built on.

But the fights are crap. I wouldnt pay a fiver for them. Saw the clip on youtube, that was enough for me.

As for the Greenberg fight, well, just what do they fear. They must know something about him to keep the level of opponent so woeful

If Wlad v Valuev or Sam Peter II is made this year it won't be on Sky, it won't be on ITV - it will be on SecondsOut.

I think SO.TV is getting a good balance between 'C' level fights like Moorer & McCall's recent comeback KOs, up-and-comers like John Duddy. I think we're offering a good service for a good price and we're only going to get better.

As for Greenberg, used to think he could turn into something a bit special... used to think Britney Spears was hot, too.
:P
Dont get me wrong, I tink Seconds out should be commeded for taking such a brave step which should make a massive difference to fight fans.

Once the quality of matche improves, and subscriptions increase, they will have access to a paying global audience, and will be able to promote massive events.

It is the way forward.

As for Greenberg, his camp were saying that he could beat Wlad.

Greenberg may not be even as competetive as Ray Austin was.

A good fight for Seconds out would be David Haye - v - Audley Harrison.

I will be signing up for the Duddy fight as I think he has a good opponent.

what's so great about downloading a Klitschko fight?

If there was anything big happening at heavyweight it'd be on Sky.

One more expense.

It's not exactly going to replace all the great domestic stuff that's on Sky, and will SO even be showing more international fare than Sky? Yes Sky leave a lot of gaps in their international coverage, but I'm sceptical. Shall we not bother seeing Barrera-Marquez, and save our money for whatever video stream's available next week?

If SO were to show fights with Kessler, Mormeck, Narvaes, Parra, then I'd sign up. Show the essential fights that no one else shows, then I'd be interested.

I tend to agree with VM.... If secondsout are getting fights guarenteed not to be shown on Sky then great.

If it is signing deals with promotional firms in advance preventing Sky from obtaining rights then its bad for the game IMO.

If seconds out could show the fights on TV (via a boxing channell on the Sky network) then great.

Sky's coverage of the sport is patchy though, why not have another source which is available to millions? Admittedly, it may not be so easy for people to find out about it unless they visit boxing web sites.

I agree with that, only thing I don't like is the "exlcusive". I just wish it was down to maybe a bidding war bill by bill. If Sky were not interested, then great have it on Secondsout.

One of the reasons that allegedly left ITV in the first place for was Sky offered him on some occasions 2 shows a week and a chance to showcase emerging talent than an hour long ITV show (in the old days) never really did. It was originally called Ringside on the road.

Now, I still think the FW move was bad for the game, it got less and less people to watch the sport - even though what he said about the emerging talent not being showcased was true. This is similar, the fact that Sky/ITV/BBC whoever can no longer acquire the rights even if they wanted them is bad for the game.

Sky also offered more money than ITV were prepared to pay. I've heard that towards the end they were offering really paltry sums for Hamed fights.

Oh yeah, I didn't say it was the only reason!.

I do think though that Warren got it discussed with ITV regarding the use of the digital channels as to showcase the emerging talent before resigning.

I know the production isn't upto what it was when ITV were originally on the scene.... and by production I mean advertising, time slot, number of events (I think), commentry, interview technique and approriate hype etc. However, I do think more boxers are being showcased per bill.

Should Klitchko fight Valuev I wager SKY will show it, be it through some bizzare loop hole, or offering you lot at seconds out a healthy wedge. Klitchko Valuev has the potential to be pay per view material, even in the uk (surely)?
Do you have US rights for it too?

Valuev and Klit will certainly want very well paying for this bout, cannot see how this could be funded off the back of internet subscriptions, not without a massive ad campaign to alert people.

Realistically, SecondsOut won't be in a bidding war with Sky anytime soon. However, having said that, SecondsOut won the rights to FOUR Wladimir Klitschko fights (Brock, Austin, and Wlad's next two fights).

SKY WILL NOT have Klitschko's next two fights. Not on delay, not ever. And we're not offering "downloads" but live streams, there's a difference.

I'm with you guys - Wlad v Austin wasn't exactly Ali v Foreman - but it was a fight Wlad had to have because of the brainboxes at the IBF. However, hopefully next up for Wlad is Valuev or even Sam Peter in a rematch. Surely those fights will be worth paying £7 quid for, esp with every single undercard fight thrown in?

Personally, I think Sky's coverage is pathetic and has been so for a while. They've taken a national sport and turned it into something similar to drag-racing, BMXing and greyhounds. Oh, we get thrown a bone every now and then (say a Mayweather fight here, a Pac-Man fight there) but most of the shite they shovel on Friday night's reeks to high heaven.

Another reason SecondsOut.tv is worth checking out: no Nicky Piper. Nuff said! :TU:
[/quote]

Give me Nicky Piper over Duke McKenzie any day. :TU:

Now, I'm not saying Secondsout have done anything untoward or do not deserve a pat on the back. I have often said the more boxing on the better. If Sky/Setanta/ITV etc had no intention of showing Klitchsko vs Austin on "free" or as a PPV then yes, well done for Secondsout for showing it. I am lucky enough to get emails from Kevin Taylor at BBN asking my views on how to move the site on - often my reply is - try and get the streaming of small hall fights going again - fantastic for the sport (cause those fights will not get shown), for the site and for the promoter. I'm saying this as a fan - I don't know the business side of it.

However, whilst its undoubted good business from the guys at secondsout to "get in there early" and secure the fights with Klitchsko et al before the likes of Sky. However, take for example if one of these two fights happen to be Klitchsko vs Lennox Lewis (unlikely I know).... Now Sky will be screaming to show this one, as probably would a terrestial TV opporator in the UK. For me, its bad for the game that such a fight will only be shown on a computer screen with no option to re-view.

The internet may be the future, but I still think it should always be the "alternative" and never the mainstream.... and if the mainstream are not getting the opportunity to showcase the fight that they might have been interested in showing then it is bad for the sport (not saying this was fight was applicable indeed the majority of PPV internet events I have seen advertised Sky wouldn't look at - not so long back Demarcus Corley vs Darryl Tyson was showcased live as a PPV internet only event).

Unfotunately, being a tight arsed taffy - I would expect a little more options for the money than currently being offered. For example, if I get assurances that the pic quality was A OK - plus... the ability to stick the fight from streamed onto DVD so I can watch whenever, and wherever I want to then I would subscribe.

I don't want to pay 7 quid for a 2 am jobby, fall asleep and not see the fight. At least next weekend if I fall asleep I always have the video of it to watch again. I would subscrbe in the scenerio of being able to view a recording of it in the comfort of my living room the following day. I'd probably wouldn't watch the live streaming - just leave the CPU on.

Look at the discussions here, most of it is on fights people have seen and can have the opportunity (and people often do) to view again if a poster has stated something that another has missed.

Fair comment Ant, you answered the "Whenever" part of my arguement (something I didn't know about untill now) - just the "Wherever" part cannot be sorted. Untill that is then sorry I won't be subscribing.

Good luck with anyway.

SecondsOut has a valid contract to Wlad's next two fights, signed, sealed, delivered. If Sky wanted to show (eg) Wlad v Peter II - tough - we have the contract, not them.

I don't want to pay 7 quid for a 2 am jobby, fall asleep and not see the fight. At least next weekend if I fall asleep I always have the video of it to watch again. As a SO subscriber, you can watch our PPV fights whenever. It's not a case of "fall asleep and you've paid for nothing". For example, our PPV shows from last year are available right now. If you'd prefer, you can wait until you wake up Sunday, go to SO.TV and watch the fights as if live.

Should Klitchko fight Valuev I wager SKY will show it, be it through some bizzare loop hole, or offering you lot at seconds out a healthy wedge. Klitchko Valuev has the potential to be pay per view material, even in the uk (surely)?

Again, SO have the rights to Wlad's next two fight, whether he fight Mickey Mouse, Mike Tyson, Valuev or whoever else. Sky can't do nothing about that. We don't have US rights for Wlad's fight, HBO do. We have UK and about a dozen other countries (see SecondsOut for full list).
Fair point.

what I meant was, that if Klit and Valuev want to fight, they would be likely to wait until the fight was open to bidders. I am not knocking your enterprise in any way, I think it's an excellent idea, and I am all for it, but the biggest fights will be harder to secure, as the predicted revenue stream for PPV on Sky are going to bigger.

I'm not denying that you have a watertight deal, only that Wlad's and Valuev's people would be unlikely to go for a fight to be aired only on Secondout.tv, unless they could show some VERY impressive corroborated figures to them for subscriptions to previous bouts.

I wish secondsout nothing but the best.

May I ask, what forms of advertising have SO undertaken to get people to subscribe thus far? I missed the last couple of weeks of boxing news, do don't know whether it was in there or not.
